Now I bring you a Marcos Mantis Spyder.

Marcos was a company that started in 1959 and went under in 1971 after financial troubles and difficulties with the U.S. market.

Marsh one of the original two owners bought back the rights in 1976, restarted kit production going into full car production before going under again in 2000.

In 2002 a Canadian formed Marcos Engineering Ltd with Marsh. Race car production move to Holland, road car production stayed in the U.K. before the company went into Voluntary liquidation in 2007.

There is a TVR connection in that most of TVRs designers had moved to Marcos in 2005. 4.6 Quad cam V8 with a 5 speed gearbox.

One of the last Marcos to come out was the TSO GT with a 5.7 LS1 V8.

Only seven were produced before the company closed, again.

The rights were bought in 2010 by Tony Brown (who apparently is good friends with Sir Stirling Moss) and Marcos Cars Ltd was started. In 2013 a Marcos badged car, the Sprint 220 was seen.

I remember the Marcos Mantis! It was in Test Drive 6 IIRC as well as a large book on cars that I had ten years back, I should really try and find it.

I was planning on doing a whole slew of interesting, rare, unheard of sports cars in the coming days, including the whole 1990s line of ACs (the company famous for giving us the Cobra), including the 1993 Brooklands Ace:

And the 1997 Ace:

for years I’ve thought of British sportscar makers that are dead or no longer British-owned, such as AC, Austin Healey, Bristol, Connaught, Jensen, Lister, Lotus (Malaysian), Marcos, MG (Chinese), TVR ...
