Yes. Yes. It is. Some mates of mine have just invested in the one pictured. It will have an expedition camper body fitted to it later this year...

The sobering factor is that my house is of equivalent value...just as it sits in these pics.

but why? I mean aside from “why not” do they have a reason for the massive investment?

Why not is primarily the thinking. They are young enough (far from retired, financially secure, very transferable working skills), want to travel and they want to do it their way. They plan to spend the rest of the decade on their sharing their working/travelling lives here in Oz and then pack the lot into a shipping container and travel the planet.

They only went with the Mog because they couldn’t find something here used that was of sufficient load capacity for the body they wanted and 4x4 capability, in good condition, easily maintained and didn’t require further modification. They spent 18 months searching and found just two candidates (MAN trucks) and both were well kicked as a result of their time in the mines. So they bit the bullet and paid the coin for the Mog.

I’ve been looking at 4x4 trucks for giggles but once you make the modifications required to get similar off road spec to the Mog with super single wheels, full articulation suspension, diff locks then the coin really starts to add up on even a basic machine. So going with a heirloom item makes a weird kind of sense.

Sure...but would you drive 5,000 miles in it and still love it when you get there?

Oh wow. That’s bizarre, they’re so small, and the front end looks like something is missing

I’m struggling to see that thing going into a standard shipping container. A RORO maybe. But once it’s got a camper body dropped onto it? Doubtful.

If I wasn’t married I am sure I would live in an overland Mog rig.

I’m told the body is no taller than the cab when packed.

As to whether it fits in a high cube container...I await the demonstration from the owners. Bear in mind though...it got to Australia from Germany somehow.
