My older cousin has been begging me to find a car for him to buy as he doesn’t want to drive my aunt’s Lincoln Aviator. Im having some troubles though, so I came to OppositeLock for help. Here are some rules:

1. Preferably a coupe

2. Has to have more than 2 seats

3. Has to be in NJ or PA

4. Must be at least prettier than a 1st gen Fiat Multipla (setting the standards low)

5. I was too cheap to go to automatchconsulting.com

A 1986 to 1991 Honda Prelude is probably the best Coupe you’ll find at that price. Many are mostly unmodified.

Also any old Honda Civic Coupe.

The main issue for any $1000 car in that area will be rust. I feel like any car with minimal to no rust would automatically be worth more than $1000.

THE quintessential first car for a teenage boy: a fifth generation Grand Am.

$1000 ain’t gonna get you much of anything. Grand Ams are cheap and plentiful and not nearly as awful as people make them out to be. My brother has one for his first car and it’s pretty much the perfect first car.

Don’t mean to be rude, but the point is to find a car and put a link from eBay, Craigslist, etc

Not to be rude but can’t you just go on any private sale website and put <1000? I don’t see the need for oppo on this one. Also why a coupe? It’s the kids first car, even a mulipla should be acceptable. Literally don’t have standards for 1000$ cars, just find cars that were good to start out with it civic, Accord, wbody ect and stay away from cars you already know are trash ie. Neon, pt, hhr, caviler ect

They are as awful as they look lol. Have had too many in the family and they are the definition of the old “a gm car will run like shit longer than most cars run”. Did enjoy when we had a beater one that we did silly stuff in although never really liked the car beyond that

Oops, sorry. Wasn’t sure if you were looking for made/model suggestions or specific listings.

My bad.

I don’t mind driving my brother’s at all to be honest. Mind you his has the all-aluminum EcoTec rather than the block of iron 3.4 so it might feel a little more tossable, plus it was babied its whole life by the prior owner so it isn’t the normal “about to die but never does” Grand Am experience. It’s pretty enjoyable to dart around traffic in but I daily a full-size truck so anything would be more fun in traffic.

If he can’t afford to spend more than a thousand bucks on a car, he’s better off driving the Lincoln. Sub-$1000 cars in PA will be rusty, have a salvage title, or not be in working order. Unless the Lincoln is falling apart, he’s better off saving up a few more bucks to get something decent. Sorry to harshen your marshmallow.

It’s not just rust at that low of a price point. Here’s a great example of a sub 1k car in eastern PA:

For $550, you get a car that needs $200 worth of brake work, needs a new valve cover gasket, and is missing a title. Oh, and the car is two different colors and the current owner doesn’t know why. It’s probably been in an accident or two, and it may not even have a title, just a salvage certificate. That means it’s not street legal until you can pass an enhanced inspection to prove that you repaired the damage. And on top of all of that, it’s still a Chevy Aveo.

Suddenly, a working Lincoln Aviator sounds pretty sweet.

I said preferably. And the neon is one of the only good cars from pre-charger dodge

Anything from Chrysler in the late 90s to now is usually trash. The neon was never good. We just put up with it because of the srt 4. If you want a good American compact you bought a Saturn SL2. One of the most reliable compacts to come from america
