Xsaras have been the perfect beaters for some years now. Unloved, very cheap but both decent to drive and decent reliability wise.

Anyway Dusty, there’s this week long UK (Wales) meet next Easter. We’ve been brainstorming doing a beater option as well (as apposed to a rental), given that old cars are very cheap in the UK. Want to join? I’m sure you could have a Xsara for a few hundred pounds, with 2 digit (if any) depreciation if you have a British oppo member sell it for you afterwards. And you could conquer Wales with it, or more if you wish to stay longer.

I really liked those cars! When I was a kid I used to have time to watch WRC from time to time

How did they do it? What was the secret? FWD is worse!

On tarmac the weight advantage was enough to overcome the traction disadvantage.

I’d love to, but a Eurotrip isn’t in the budget at the moment

I’d have thought the weight would be all regulated anyway. Like, every car would be 1300kg or whatever.

FWD kit cars were under a different ruleset from the AWD WRC cars. The kit cars were about 2100 pounds while the WRC cars were 2700.
