Just deleted the mid muffler on the TL and it sounds fantastic, but is very very mild still. The tone is exponentially better, and under full throttle it sings. Around the city I can barely tell the difference, and I haven’t experienced any drone yet.

Around the Acura boards a mid muffler delete is referred to as “stage 1" (I know, its dumb). I had it done for $50 just to get a taste, but now I need to go stage 3 because the interior noise level barely changed. “stage 3" is the mid muffler delete but with stock resonator swapped with an aftermarket res.

As far as 1 month impressions of the TL, I am still in my honeymoon phase coming from a big lifted 4x4 so I can’t be too objective. Its quick, its comfy, its elegant, and yes, its a little anonymous. The Pathfinder was a neck snapper; Not because it was good looking, but just because it was big and unique.

Am I worried that the trans will grenade?

What year is it? I think your generation, the later years, had zero horrible grenading transmissions

Its an 05 and 07-08 were the last of the gen and had the fixed trans. Sad times, but its on its original trans still and I am going to do a lot of preventative maintenance to try to keep it healthy.

Even an early 3rd gen is waaaaay less likely to have trans problems than the 2nd generation (ended in 03). I got it for so cheap that even if I have to rebuild the trans and it gets to 180k ill be happy.

2nd gen TL’s actually were able to have Odyssey transmissions bolt right on and those were supposedly rock solid.

Best of luck to you. My TL-S was a joy

I believe I may be able to swap 07 accord trans with not too much hassle. I guess ill cross that bridge when (if) I come to it. I know of some japanese specialist transmission shops that do rebuilds on honda A/ts and claim they address some of the faults, but who knows.

So far ive been having a lot of fun with it, and maybe down the road ill ditch it for a 6mt or type S since the manual TLs run forever.

Interesting timing on me seeing this since I’m taking mine to my guy later this week to get my compliance bushings replaced and possible struts depending on what he sees when he gets it up on the lift. I have an 05 aspec 6M/T with 171k on the ODO. She has done fairly well with the exception of have my interior lights surrounding the radio and all of the ones on the steering wheel are out. It is a daily driver so that stuff doesn’t bother me much. The dash is cracked (tons of info on the forums on it), I’ve replaced the motor mounts recently as well as the steering wheel cruise switch, the a/c schrader valves and the accelerator pedal position sensor - all normal stuff given the age and mileage - she hasn’t given me a ounce of problems. Other than normal oil changes and maintenance, I hardly ever need to open the hood. I wish I knew the wear of my clutch but without digging into it, there is no way to tell. Honda decided to use a self adjusting clutch on these so there it no way to “feel” if you clutch is worn. It will feel the exact same until it fails. For that reason, I baby my clutch so I expect to keep it for a little while longer. I turn the key, she starts. That is all I ask. Enjoy yours!

I propose that you keep it as stock as possible and get another toy to modify.

I have a 2010 TL and I wanted the same thing for it to be a little louder so I did the same I started with taking off the Big ass resonators the car comes with and when I started it still wasn’t happy with the sound so I added two cherry bombs and then the sound I was looking for was there and no not a very loud sound as if I was to put them on a truck but a real nice deep sound that sounds real good I’ve had it like this for about a year now and yes it’s has gotten louder since I’ve had it installed but I would never go back to stock after hearing how good it’s sounds now

For the third gen it should have just come from the factory with no mid muffler. Sounds great under acceleration and not noticeable when cruising

I wish I could have found a nice m/t especially aspect but it’s been great so far. These are becoming great deals if you can look past cosmetic stuff like the dash cracks (mines cracked as well).

Sadly what would’ve been my toy rusted out and I had to sell it for a big loss. I picked up the TL for really cheap and I am not going to modify it too aggressively so it’ll pretty much stay my clean dd. You’d be surprised how stock it still sounds though

I was really looking at tsx’es for a little more tossability but only the first gen are in my price range. The TL is more of a cruiser but its a smooth and fast cruiser which I love.

I own a second gen TSX. I get it. definitely a cruiser. That said, nothing that a good pair of tires can fix!
