Kinja'd!!!

Came within $1000 of making a deal on a 2015 GTI for my wife and I to share (plus the ST for me).

Sticker was $28K, I wanted to play $26K max and he wouldn’t go past $27K.

I dunno, it is what it is.

I counter with $26.5k to see if they bite. I still show your interested, & willing go adjust.

Wait 2 weeks, then see if the car is still there. I made my offer on my ‘97 SHO - 26 grand, tags, taxes, no prep fee. Took ‘em a month or so to take it, but they knew I had them.

What’s good is that you know what you want to pay and you’re willing to stick with it. It seems like that’s a rare trait. When I bought my Focus ST, I was going to walk over $700. The salesperson I was dealing with was astonished. I knew what I was willing to pay, and that was that.

That’s more than what new ones go for, why pay the same for a 2 year old model? Unless those are Canadian or Australian dollars you’re getting screwed.

I live in Texas and I got a Canadian quarter as change at McDonald’s over the weekend. I only realized it when it stuck to a magnet on my key ring. I had no idea that Canadian money was magnetic (no US currency is ferromagnetic).

It’s tough to be honest. Like, our budget really shouldn’t exceed $23500 because we’re paying cash and need money to cover taxes and insurance.

I was just hoping I could snag the GTI for $26, but really already that is exceeding my pricing.

Will do!

To be honest, we’re mostly looking for whatever daily to rack up the miles. Currently close to buying a CX-3 (I know, ugh). But the chance at a GTI would have been great.

Best deal I ever got on a car was the last day of the year on a 300D - they want them off the lot, and this one didn’t have leather. Nearly 9 grand under list. But you’ll have to wait ... They do floorplanning, and it costs them money to keep cars in the showroom or on the lot.

Sadly time is of the essence. My wife does not drive stick (or ever want to) and will need a car for work soon. She hasn’t really driven for years and we want to buy something daily-able that she can practice on for a while before starting work.

Look at leftover Scions - Toyota reliability and a badge no one cares about ... you might take one for a song.
