reminds me of the way it used to be. My grandma used to tell me that when they wanted to tow a camper or a boat they never used the K20 scotsdale camper special, they used the caddy because it had the bigger engine. Thats just what you did.

Sweet! And yeah, that’s a ‘53 or ‘54 Pontiac. I could do without the side pipes on that but awesome car.

A few months ago, I saw a Ford wagon of the same vintage pulling a camper trailer (also vintage) and was super jealous.

Body on frame, it’s basically a truck. So why not.

Yeah the side pipes and muscle car wheels don’t fit, but to each their own.

Back when the trucks were trucks, and the cars were trucks.

Have you ever seen the movie The Long Long Trailer? It’s Lucy and Desi going cross country with, well, a long trailer. Back then you did that with a car.

For sure! It doesn’t seem to be riding unusually high to me - it’s BOF to begin with, and it’s common for people to both raise and lower the ride height on ‘50's cars (and advertising of the day invariably showed the cars lower than they would ever be from the factory).

Looks like it was handling the trailer okay. I can’t tell if it had a weight distribution hitch or not. That part’s just out of sight.

Yup. My ‘73 Buick LeSabre has a class 3 hitch on it and is a fantastic tow vehicle. It’s long, heavy and very stable towing a heavy load, no problems at all.

Have a class 3 hitch on my ‘73 Buick. Resurrecting my old Buick allowed me to sell my ‘05 GMC Yukon and still be able to tow my big flatbed trailer when I need to move stuff.

Probably not with a trailer that small. With a bigger trailer you’ll want a load distribution with anti sway but for that little thing not necessary at all.

Yeah, I’m much more used to associating WD hitches with bigger trailers.

But an old Pontiac like that kinda throws me off. I’m just not familiar at all with what they’re capable of towing. I’m sure they can handle pulling a modest bit of load, but I’m not sure if that old suspension would need some help to keep from sagging in the rear, even with what we would consider nowadays to be a “light” trailer.

But the main limiting factor would probably be brakes, actually. Especially if those were stock brakes. That trailer is apparently heavy enough to warrant two axles...
