By the way, the luxury pickup truck is back in Japan. (Initial units were imported from Thailand, though.)

Yeah. SUVs are the driving factor here.
SUVs are really popular segment in Japan so this pushed into the revival of pickup trucks there. Japanese people prefer roomy SUVs and minivans over station wagons.
I would personally want to see Nissan Frontier/Navara and new Mitsubishi Triton being made available in Japan, if Hilux does sell well. Toyota wants to sell Hilux as a luxury work horse and a recreational vehicle in Japan, in spirit of its namesake.

Everywhere, except North America. No need to care about Australia. Care only about Japan.
Japanese Hilux doesn’t even have replacements before they got discontinued.
The utes are extinct in Japan.
