This is a mesmerizing GIF... So, I’m usually an upgrade-as-soon-as-I’m eligible type, but the sweet, sweet form factor of my 5s has kept me loyal for 4 LONG YEARS (yes, I did consider the SE). I also considered a move to Android, but as a Mac user with most of my family using iPhones (kids FaceTime with grandparents & cousins), I’m sticking with Team Apple for now. As much as I wanted to jump to the latest and greatest and the big, glorious, edge-to-edge OLED screen, the loss of TouchID in favor of facial recognition is probably going to make me stick with the 7s (or 8, if that’s what they’re calling it). I prefer not to be a beta tester at that price point... Anyone else paying close attention today and planning to upgrade soon?

I’m trying to go back to Team Apple myself. For a brief moment I got back into Apple too, but I sold the phone to pick up Chelsea.

I’m currently exploring options to see how I can get my hands on the 7S/8 as the X/8 will likely be priced to oblivion. I’m SUPER excited for today! I’ve been paying close attention to the iPhone news over the past year. :D

I’ve got an SE and I don’t see my self dumping it any time soon. While some may consider it small, and I guess it is by today’s standards, I think it’s the perfect size. And for now at least, it works just fine.

Thus far the 5S has been my favorite iphone due to it’s size. It is much easier to OPPO on my 7 though because it has a much bigger screen. The 7 is much faster than my 5 as well. I usually get the newest phone that is currently available and use it about 3-4 years and don’t get too hung up on features as long as it does what I need it to do.

I’ve had a 3GS, 4, 4S, 5S, 6 and a 7. So I’ll probably upgrade. Most of my family is using SE’s. I thought the 6 would be too bulky but it’s so thin that I don’t mind it at all. I may or may not upgrade my 7, but I’ll definitely be getting one of the phones revealed today for my wife who’s 6 is dying (power button no longer works, yellow splotch on screen). I’m not sold on the face thing. I often unlock my phone in my pocket so it is already unlocked by the time I’m looking at it. But if it works very quickly I might not mind it.

Honestly, the only time I wish I had a bigger screen is when I’m showing someone else something on my phone... And as much as I like the ergonomics and form factor, it does have a tendency to wear obvious lines in my jeans.

I’ll eventually upgrade my 6s, but if they’re really ditching the touch ID for facial recognition I’ll be waiting a while. Lucky for me at least a handfull of people at my company will have to have it as soon as it’s available, so I’ll get to play with one sooner than later.

I usually jump a generation or two. I have a 6S Plus, and I never thought I’d go so large, but it’s nice to have a larger screen when more and more of what I do involves a web browser.

For the first time, though, I have a cracked screen, and I’m looking at an earlier upgrade. I’m always excited on new Apple announcement days, regardless. I like toys.

I had that SE, but it was too small. Then I picked up a mint 6, but it was locked to Sprint and likely financed (thus always under the blacklist threat). Sold it to cover the entirety of the costs to pick up Chelsea.

Figured that if I attempt this again, I might as well take the advice of other Oppos and go new. The best phones I’ve ever owned were my gold iPhone 6 (sold to appease Miss Tesla) and the Galaxy S7 (sold to get a Nexus 6P thinking I’d go Google Fi). I regret selling both!

I’m now realizing how many of these I’ve had. 3G, 3GS, 4, 5C, 6, 6S and currently on a 7. I lost the 3, so went to the 3GS off-contract. That hurt the wallet. In between the 4 and 5C I went to a Galaxy for a hot minute (maybe 4 months) and then went back to Apple, because it was so horrible. My mom actually paid for that one off-contract because she was tired of our calls dropping every two minutes. Now I’m on a year upgrade plan so I’ll get the new one like a month after the crazy demand dies off.

I’ve spent way less than you - went 3Gs-4s-5s - but I’ve always thought that the cost of these phones is pretty trivial considering what we all pay for our contracts for the course of a year or two. Also, I have no problem spending good money on something I’m going to be using many times a day, every day.

I generally buy the top-of-the-line previous gen MacBook Pro on clearance at deep discounts when they come out with the new hotness, and I’ve been averaging probably 8 years between upgrades. I use Windows at work, and I see positives in each OS. Also, now that Adobe’s doing their Creative Cloud thing (which I don’t have yet), I’m not as tied down to one OS.

New smart phones are WAY too expensive regardless of OS. And being on a contract only masks that price in other costs. It seems like now is a good time to pick up a lightly used previous gen iphone though right as the “gotta have the new one” people feverishly upgrade. If it wasnt for the craptastic iOS, I would gladly pick up a 5s for a steal. It would be cool if we could live in a world with apple hardware running an android OS.

I’m gonna jump from my S7 Edge to an iPhone. I bought an iPad Pro 10.5 a couple months ago and I love it, so I’m ready to take the full jump.

Android gets so much right in their OS, yet users are still unable to fully backup and restore a phone like an iPhone user can. this has been my biggest issue with android from day one. My S7 Edge had a total failure back in May. While I was able to restore some of my data, all of my app data, and most of my settings were not restored. I was up until 2 or 3 in the morning doing this. I do not want to go through that kind of headache again. I don’t have time nor the interest to tweak my phone anymore.

Here are the facts: Apple stuff works really well most of the time, and when it doesn’t, their support is second to none.

I used to be one of those whiny nerds who parroted the same “have fun getting ripped off by apple” and “too bad your phone was 3 years old before it came out” tropes. But looking back it is total silliness. And I’ll admit that saying that crap made me come across as kind of an asshole; I know this now because when I hear people saying that stuff I think “wow that dude is kind of an asshole.” Buy what works for you, leave other people and their purchases alone. End of story.

I really want an iPad Pro with the Pencil... Just hard for me to spend so much on something that I’ll really just use as a toy. I need to get an older one on clearance.

I use it all: Apple, Microsoft, Google, Facebook, etc. The way I look at it, figure out what works best for you and go with it. Drop the crap that doesn’t. Apple hardware is great, but their web-based services have been pretty shitty so far, so I use Gmail, Gcal, Dropbox, etc.

I agree, many apple apps leave something to be desired, but now you don’t have to use their apps. That’s a big selling point for me. The only apple app I use regularly is safari.

The apple pencil is too rich for my blood, and I really have no use for it. I had a Galaxy Note 8.0 (the tablet with the wacom stylus) and it really taught me that I don’t need a stylus like I thought I did, and my handwriting is too bad to even take advantage of it.

However, I use my iPad waaaay more than I thought I would. I was even on the fence as I handed my credit card to the best buy cashier. But I’m really blown away. I don’t like not being able to drag and drop whatever file I want onto my iPad, but I hear thats-a-changing with iOS 11 (which was another big selling point for me.) Its a good toy, but it really is a great tool as well. Despite being brand new they’ve gone on sale for as much as $100 off already. If you have a need for it, or even just want it a lot, its well worth it.

Look at me...shilling for apple lol I never thought I’d see this day.

I’m mildly excited. I just like new tech stuff in general. I get a new phone every two years and give whatever I’m replacing to my mom. For me it’s the battery life. I use my phone for work and fun so by the time it’s 2 the battery life is fairly crap.

My first smart phone was an android. It was great in the beginning but since it wasn’t a flagship phone it was quickly outdated and I grew frustrated with it pretty quickly. Switched to Apple and have been happy since (except the price). But a flagship android phone tends to retail for around the same as an iPhone so that’s not much of an issue anymore. I learned a while back to buy the best tech you can afford if you want it to last.

The only iPhone I’ve had was a 3GS that was a corporate issue phone at my first job. Since then I’ve had various Android phones…most recently an Honor 8 I picked up brand new, unlocked for $275. The new iPhones just aren’t worth the $$$ to me – same goes for flagship Android phones. I’d rather have 90% of the performance for 50% or less of the cost with a slightly older or “lower tier” phone – although I must admit my Honor 8 is beautiful and doesn’t leave me wanting anything more out of it one bit.

My wife has been an Apple devotee throughout – she refuses to buy anything else. Which I don’t get – to me I’d rather shop around and let my allegiance lie with whatever has the best value for money. But she loves the iOS and the ease of use and refuses to look anywhere else. Which I can’t fault her for –she’s very thrifty with her electronic purchases. She’s had her iPhone 5S for pretty much the entire time I’ve known her and she has no desire to get anything newer until it craps out and there is a newer small form factor option that is affordable on the Apple line up. So to each their own, I suppose. She also always points out that during the time she’s had this one 5S I’ve cycled through FOUR Android phones, all of which have died of various off-warranty issues or just slowed down to a snail’s pace…to which I just shout “ANECDOTAL DATA nanananananananana I don’t hear you!”

Really hoping I get a good few years with the Honor 8 to save my dignity…the first 5 months have been flawless thus far.
