If I could find something that was in pretty good shape I could, but nothing crazy. Of course finding a project that’s solid mechanically, but has a trashed enough exterior and interior to make it affordable is almost a unicorn.

Ideally an El Camino, but really any old American car/truck (70s or older) would do. V8 would be preferable, but I think I could live with a straight 6. No preference for auto or manual really.
Price.... Hard one. I do have quite a bit of many in savings, but I don’t think I’d wanna go over $4k.

but the upside to the imaginary project, is that you can chase down all the parts you want, and install them all, and have it running( just listen to that monster camshaft, and that open exhaust) and in paint, JUST the way you want it. even cruise it around the block in your mind. and all that it takes, is some imagination.......

70s would still be fine. 79 would still be 13 years older than the oldest car I’ve owned.
And yes, square bodies would be fine. Shortbed would be massively preferable, but not necessary. Although long beds would definitely be out.
