The wife’s Fit is in for its Takata airbag recall, and we got an HR-V as a loaner. Which is nice because before we even bought the Fit I thought “after this next car we’re getting an HR-V. This one is even the color we’d get Mulberry pearl. It’s got some awesome flake in it, although it does look like black 99% of the time.

Kinja'd!!!

My wife got out of it today and told me “it’s ugly as sin but I do like driving it more than the Fit. she likes that it’s higher up mainly. Although the higher sills, and dash give you more of a “sitting I the car” feeling compared to the Fit’s minivan like “sitting on top of the car”.

I like it a lot to the 141hp 1.8l is a huuuge I’m provement from the 1.6 in the Fit. The CVT is weird, but get the job done, and at least tries to let you have fun. Unsurprisingly the car isn’t fun at all on dirt, dispite being AWD. And it has a definite feeling of being very fragile. I’ve had lots of cars that feel unbrakable, and this is not on of them. The interior loses all of the Fit’s charm, but t is very well laid out, and I like that the door panels are covered in soft padded cloth, although I’m sure it won’t wear well.

I’m still considering it a contender for her new car, but for me I’d stick with a Fit.

I’d rather have the green.

Give me a Fit EX with a 6-speed. It’s about the perfect commuter. I’d want red.

I was surprised with just how spacious it was when I sat in one. It’s like early 2000's CRV level of room.

The “everything feels like it’s gonna break” is a common theme for new Hondas, I think. The gf has a CR-V and it just feels...thin. The black plastic is all rubbing off after just a year and the low def cameras just kill me.

But it doesn’t have the trick folding center console thing the early 2000s CRV had

The HR-V EX-L Navi awd was one of our finalists last year when shopping for my wife’s car. Loved the back seat room, all the cameras, and the super versatile packaging. We ended up with an Impreza Limited hatchback instead, because:

1. Better AWD system, because we’re in Wisconsin.

2 Independent rear suspension rides better over bumpy crappy roads, because we’re in Wisconsin.

3. Active cruise control + safety features like pre-collision braking

4. We were leasing, and at the time, with similar $27k sticker prices, the HR-V payments were about $80/month higher.

We’re very happy with the Impreza, but if the payments were closer, we could have just as easily ended up with an HR-V. I do love our Impreza’s active cruise though, it’s an awesome feature.

The Crosstrek is another contender, I think she’d like it more than a standard Impreza

lol I forgot about that! My family’s 2002 had that. But overall the headroom and leg room was comfortable.

Subarus Eyesight system is fantastic. One of the best I’ve used honestly

My wife and I both preferred the lower ride height and cleaner look of the Impreza. The only knock against the Impreza vs. the Crosstrek for us is the OE tires on the Impreza are shit in the snow while the Crosstrek OE tires are acceptable. So...we replaced the OE tires. After selling them on Craigslist, net cost was maybe $250 mounted and balanced. But for those who prefer the extra ride height, the Crosstrek is good too.

It’s not perfect but I still like it. Nitpicks:

The lane departure warning is super annoying. When you disable it, it at least stays off after restarting the car, but you have a yellow warning light on all the time. This light is still preferable to getting beeped at all the damn time.

The cruise control +/- buttons work in 5 mph increments. If I’m doing 73 and want like, 77 instead, I have to cancel cruise, speed up to 77 with the gas pedal, the reset cruise.

In winter, whatever sensors that are down in the front bumper can get covered up by snow and ice which randomly disables the system and beeps a bunch.

So it ain’t perfect, but the active cruise is still very nice to have on semi-busy highways. At least once you get your speed set.

I think the HR-V isn’t bad looking. Looks better than the current Fit if you ask me. The first gen Fit is better than both.

Yeah, I’m not huge fan of the current Fits looks. I think our Second gen is the best looking of the three, but the current Fit is 100lbs lighter and has direct injection, I’d bet it’s a bit of fun with a manual trans. I just hope it has a real handbrake. edit: it do

I will agree lane departure is ridiculously sensitive. I’ve been up in NC recently on some back roads and it’ll yell at me if I get too close to the outside shoulder and I never even leave my lane.

At least in the outback (2016 limited) for the adaptive cruise, if you push up or down fully it’ll change 5 mph. If you just lightly push it’ll do 1mph increments. Ymmv.

I’m in Florida mostly so I can’t speak to the winter issues sadly

The Outback does have 1 and 5 mph increments but no such luck on the Impreza. Maybe they changed it on the new 2017.
