Kinja'd!!!

I enjoy my morning or afternoon bike rides though downtown Des Moines. In addition to being a pleasant way to exercise, I frequently see some pretty amazing cars. Whether it be a classic Lincoln Continental or a contemporary McLaren 675LT , there’s more cool cars lying around this supposedly flyover city than most would think (even though Oppo knows better when it comes to farm field states). With all of that being said, I was in for the shock of my life yesterday morning. I was actually going to go to the gym, but instead I decided it was too nice a day to be inside. When I turn the corner at the edge of what is considered downtown, the road is closed. Before me, lined up behind ropes along the curb, sit hundreds of classic cars. Apparently the Des Moines Concours d’Elegance has been a thing for nearly 20 years, and it was this weekend. While not quite as spectacular as the Concours d’Elegance of America, it was still an incredible show. The only car I feel that needs explaining is the maroon Alfa Romeo, which for some God-unknown reason I took only one photo of. Yes, it is a real 1930 Alfa Romeo 6C 1750 Supercharged, and yes, the owner lives in suburban Des Moines. Holy shit.

Track the Yenko S/C, daily the ‘58 Caddy Hearse just for the reaction it will get.

If I gotta burn one, burn one of the cop cars. Specifically the brown Ford.

I couldn’t resist a black Cadillac with all that chrome. My 2nd choice was the ‘57 Nomad.

2 different styles of Packard fastbacks, nice.

Wow!

In related news, you really must get yourself a better potato.

Really good representation of Nash, Kaiser, and other fun. The Hudson Italia is a standout weirdo there. Nice Packard slate as well.

My favorite single shot, though, is probably the ‘47(?) Hudson and the Chrysler.

These were all taken with my old iPhone 5S, hopefully I’ll be picking up the 8 soon.

I’m thinking maybe DD the ‘46 Packard Clipper (straight eight SWB coupe? DUDE!), track the ‘70 GT-350 for pure rawness (although the Marcos would be interesting), and burn either the Triumph or the Beetle before they tried to kill me first.

You can never have too many fastback Packards.

How am I not surprised you picked the Packard? Although I must admit it is a very beautiful Packard.

It’s like... imagine you’re at some kind of fancy $5,000 a plate event and for some reason it’s a buffet or you can choose what to get. It’s totally possible that the caviar and the foie gras are not even close to the tastiest thing there - but at some point the Like A Sir impulse kicks in. You just gotta.
