There are kids that will be getting their licenses this week that can say “I was born after 9/11.”

Thanks for making me feel old first thing in the morning, Marsh.

I teach teenagers, I’ve got a bunch of these.

My seniors are too young to remember a time before the iPhone.

The Original Star Wars is as old for kids today as Gone with the Wind was when Star Wars opened in theaters.

18 year olds who enlist in the military could be sent to Afghanistan to fight in a war that predates their earliest childhood memories.

The NA Miata is as old to us today as the Lotus Elan it was based was to it when the Miata was first released.

A friend of mine posted today that her son had an assignment to come home and ask their parents about where they were on 9/11. She, like me, were living in the dorms at the time. The kicker is, her son’s teacher was only 10 at the time, so he just remembered being sent home.

Its one thing to know there are teens born after, its another to know their teachers don’t remember it either.

I had to verify your Star Wars point, and now feel even older.

That’s pretty much me, too. I was 9 (3rd grade). I remember the announcement that we were having an early dismissal from school and thinking my bus driver was acting weird and unusually concerned when he told my mom, “don’t worry, I got him here safe and sound.”

I can’t really remember pre-9/11 air travel other than the fact that my parents could no longer bring food/drinks from home on the plane.

The biggest differences in travel to me were the introduction of the TSA and their authoritarian approach, and that you could no longer meet loved ones at the terminal. That and the limitations on what you could bring with you through security.

WWII is as old for us today as the American Civil War was for people during WWII.

My grandfather was born closer to the assassination of Lincoln than to the present day.

In other random timelines, Cleopatra is closer to an iphone than the when the pyramids were built.
