Ummm. How does one lubricate that engine-speed bearing? I see what might be some flung-out grease on the inside of the larger housing.

Or....does one service that bearing by doing what you’ve done here?

Strange question, but what would you think would cause one of the turn signals/lights on a W204 C300 to randomly turn on/flicker when the car is completely off? I have this strange feeling this will be expensive.

Water in the front SAM (in the box by the left hood hinge), or the light switch itself. What year? Is there a “0" position on the light switch?

It’s a sealed bearing. The flung out grease you see is just assembly lube for the splines.

It is a 2009. Light switch is in the automatic setting. I’ll check the SAM tomorrow, it may very well be rainwater leaking in there.

Right, but the switches that have a zero setting were problematic around that time and would cause that problem from time to time. Easy to diagnose with an SDS.

Spray some water on them as you go by, eh? I’m tired of breathing this garbage air!

I was asked if I wanted to volunteer to go fight the fires, but I threw my back out last week so I figured I’d be pretty worthless digging fire breaks.

The air in the city is nothing compared to what it is in hood river. Smelled like a mix of campfire and sauna. Eyes were even starting to burn for a little bit.

Easy excuse to get out... Silver linings? Though it could be quite the experience to do.

Don’t have an SDS, any other way to check? I’m gonna be looking int the SAM today after work to see if water is getting in there.

Didn’t think you would, but it’s the only way. The battery sensor stores data about what components are drawing current with the key off, and that needs to be read out to tell if the light switch is an issue. But I would be surprised if it’s anything other than the front SAM or light switch.

Hmm. I have a friend at an Indy shop, I’ll see if he has an SDS and can check.

I was actually trying to get out with the first round of volunteers, but that didn’t happen. Then I broke myself so it’s game over.

I was out in Hood River on a hike the morning before the kid started the fire.

I’d noticed. Makes me a little worried about my trip. I think it’s supposed to rain Monday. That should help a lot.

One guy at work who lives out that way just got back in to his house a couple of days ago, and the volunteers who left on Friday were back at work yesterday... Last I heard it was still only about 10% contained, though.

Constant ebb and flow, mostly losing battle. Rough stuff. I feel really bad for all the people it’s affected.
