My Fit was part of the airbag recall so I have to take it to the dealer to get it fixed; I’ve been putting it off because I don’t like the possibility of being without a car (I know, I’m terrible and putting my life at risk.) Anyway, yesterday the car started telling me it needed an oil change and I don’t have the means to do that myself so I just wanted opinions on whether I should get it done while I’m taking the car in anyway or if the risks of letting a dealer change your oil are too high.

Letting the dealer do it (by this I mean paying a lot of money for a dealer to do it) is relatively low risk. There are some horror stories, but nothing close to a Jiffy Lube type place. You’ll be ok.

I mean, I usually take my BMWs to the dealer for oil changes. I think it’s a much lower risk than taking it to some place like jiffy lube.

My local Honda dealer also happens to be a BMW dealer which is interesting if not particularly relevant!

That is an interesting dealer combination.

Best combination would be Mazda and Maserati, then they could call it a Mazdarati dealer.

My mom always takes her Honda to the dealership for oil changes. It costs 32 bucks for a 6 cylinder, so yours will be cheaper. And I trust dealerships enough to do simple tasks like that.

My dealership charged less for an oil change than jiffylube
