Rode my motorcycle 10 hours and 630 miles to Michigan to help my friend diagnose an ‘83 BMW 533i he picked up last weekend.

Kinja'd!!!

Got there, pulled the fuel hose off the regulator, jumped the fuel pump to run, and got massive spitting of fuel out the side of the barb at a clogged filter. Replaced filter, she fired right up.

Took 20 minutes to get it running. Also replaced fan clutch and a few other odds and ends but it is roadworthy now. Pulls surprisingly hard for a 34 year old German sedan. And she’s a beaut.

Bravo. If I had friends like you my car wouldn’t be on jack stands.

The 533i was the fastest 4 door you could buy when it was new, the M30B32 is no slouch. Not my favourite M30, but a good engine. Some prefer it to the B34 and B35 because of the lighter flywheel

It was listed in the Detroit metro craigslist for about 12 hours before my friend snatched it up. What a find!

They also came with this steering wheel. I always wanted to find one for my steering wheel table.

She’s been running like a Swiss watch the whole trip. Just did another 180 miles with my friend on his 95 bmw r1100gs yesterday to check out Lake Huron and other random destinations in the area.

What year is it? I recently ran across a 2013 w/cruise control for like 7 grand and it gave me bad ideas about selling everything I don’t absolutely need to get it.

Mine is an 05, first gen. Lightest and quickest with slightly shorter gearing than later years. Also mine does not have abs or traction control. The later bikes weigh 30 to 60 lbs more. Engine and trans are the same from 03 up to 2015. 2016 they put a 6 speed trans instead of the original 5 speed. But the drivetrains on all of em are fairly bulletproof.
