Well, if this is true (no timeline set yet), the age of the ICE will be over soon.

ICE may still exist in the US Market, but consumers will have even less choice than they do now.

FCA is so amazingly fucked.

I’m not opposed to this, gives them a chance to build better electric infrastructure.

They’ve been installing solar power at an insane rate:

I’ve also heard they are putting in a bunch of high voltage DC lines to carry power across China. At the rate they are going, they are going to be way ahead of anyone else with regards to renewable power in no time. It’s a smart move on their part - it improves their air quality, makes them less reliant on external fossil fuels, and poises them to be the market leader for all things renewable. The only thing they seem to be lacking is battery storage capacity, but I imagine that’ll be next.

Oh, wow. That’s impressive. I was going to say something critical about electric cars not being a good solution to their pollution issue, but maybe they’re a step ahead of that after all. I guess it largely depends on stuff like the manufacturing process is for solar panels. Nothing’s “free”, but maybe if they’re playing the long game on solar energy, they may just come out on top.

China’s pollution issues aside though, you’re absolutely right: they really are setting themselves up to be a leader in renewable energy. It’ll be interesting to watch this all play out.

They’ve also been installing massive battery farms to help with storage. A lot of which are banks of bus/truck lead acid batteries. I saw a video about it.

If you find the link to the video, feel free to share it. I’d be curious to see it.

I suppose it’s better that the lead go into batteries than into dollar store jewelry. :P

I’m looking, but the primary reason for using them was the cost/capacity ratio was super low and since they’re in a stationary storage placement weight doesn’t matter.
