I want a Porsche Boxster Spyder because I love how they’ve designed it to harken back to the look of the 914. It’s so rad.

I guy by my house has a black 914 that seems to be in great condition. I like the spider too but would rather have a Cayman since I’m not that big on convertibles.

I agree. Honestly, after owning my Wrangler...I don’t think I’d own another “open top” vehicle of any kind. The percentage of the time that top down driving is FUN is grossly disproportionate to the time that top down driving is A PAIN IN THE FUCKING ASS

*this could be an Ohio bias but it’s very true

So it’s ok for me to lust after a vehicle I’ll never truly own.

Having the Cayman would be a much better choice.

I experienced basically the same thing with my brothers Miata and stepmothers mustang convertible when I would drive them. It was nice at night but I don’t like baking in the sun the rest of the time.

My biggest gripe is that you develop this weird “paranoia” that any time it rains there a sudden terror that “I’ve left the top down” and it’s a constant thing. Having to remind yourself that “yes, dummy, the top is down...it’s February...”

It’s just an unnecessary life stress

Does it really look like a 914? The only thing that distinguishes it from every Boxster ever built is the fancy roof. But that roof is as different to a 914's roof as can be.

As a side note I feel like Porsche’s party trick is convincing people to buy cars based on their heritage whether there’s a real link or not. Like how they downsized to a 4 cylinder just like everyone else in the world, but marketed it as a 718 to create some imaginary link with a racing car nobody ever cared about. It’s genius and they understand the ignorance of their buyers very well, but it’s also lies.

Great points all around!

I won’t, nor am I able to, disagree with anything you’ve said.

For me though: I would love to own a 914 right now because it’s an attainable “driver’s” Porsche. And I really appreciate that somebody did a tip of the hat to some design cues in the new Boxster Spyder (even if it’s just the color and decal). I feel like it’s a ballzy move to style a new car to look like an old car that wasn’t a “good” car.

I’d love the 914 too :)

Ah, the decal. Yes that’s cool and I’d probably option it.
