I wanted to get a desk for my son, and I went to 5 different stores only to find out that most desks are 47" wide and the space I had to fill is 45". So I built one. Bought a 48 x 24" sheet of MDF, cut 3" off of the end and attached brackets for screw-in legs. Boom. It’s a little wobbly, but it’ll do, and it was a lot less than buying a desk. The prefab legs were a bit spendy ($10 each), but the board was only $12, brackets $8. The lamp set me back $5 at Salvation Army.

Thanks. Normally, I’m lucky if I can drive a nail straight.

That’s what glue is for.

That’ll do! You can stiffen those legs a lot of you take a 1x8, cut it into three pieces, and screw it between the legs on the other three sides.

Good idea. For now, it’s a lot steadier when I shove it against the wall!

I’m sure it is. Long term bracing it up will keep the legs from getting broken off.

A pack of 3" stamped steel ‘L’ brackets are $3 at WalMart. Screw these into the bottom of the desk back and to the wall with the supplied screws. Or add a couple bucks for the drywall screwin thingys for a solid mount to the wall. If yer renting, Lowes has a small pot of colored patching compound to use when you move,,,
