It’s just so... well rounded and complete. Succint. Distilled Far Side Concentrate.

The question is: “Don’t bulls have horns?”

Depending on breed, heifers can too.

As with squares and rectangles, all female cattle are cows, but only some cows are heifers. Specifically, those young female cows that have not yet borne their first calf.

Right-ho. I thought breed variance was the case re: horns, went to look it up to be sure, did a mental C+P from the source I looked at - which, as it was referring to early typing, was saying heifer. Hence me blarging “heifer” rather than looping back around to “cow”.

Of course, because lol English, a cow being used for females other than the bovine kind, that would *definitely* be a kind of breed distinction on horns. No horned manatees yet - curses.

Heh. It’s always interesting to me which words get used for which animals. And cow is one of those words. For example, when it comes to deer commonly found in North America, like white tailed deer or mule deer, a male is a buck and a female is a doe. But, when it comes to a species of deer native to India (and which were brought to Texas for exotic hunting purposes and are now an invasive species), the nilgai (pronounced nill-guy), the common nomenclature is quite different. A male nilgai is called a bull, and a female is called a cow.

All I know is, no matter what species of deer it is, they’re good eating. :)

Haven’t had venison in ages. Have had bear much more recently.

I haven’t ever had bear. Don’t think I ever could. Just doesn’t sound right to eat an apex predator.

Bears are weird because (at least in the case of black bears) they’re only a part-time apex predator. The rest of the time they’re like the junk food king.

They’re also ridiculously cute! And they’re my alma mater’s mascot. I couldn’t eat one. Too fuzzy! :)

My alma mater’s mascot is the yellowjacket, which I have no problem in killing eleven secret herbs & spices of hell out of - but that’s largely because yellowjackets are assholes. Even more assholey than trash-stealey bears.
