They were just told to evacuate by the air force (he’s enlisted). He has a Kia with 3/4 of a tank of gas. He is aiming for D.C. Good luck little Kia.
He should make it to Georgia befor he needs fuel. I guess Florida is out of fuel.

Crazy to think about just not being able to get gas, and there hasnt even been a disaster there yet. I guess Harvey in Texas has slowed down shipment of gas enough to cause a crisis with the added demand of so many people deciding they need 100 gallons each.
It makes sense to me after the storm, Ive experienced that first hand. And ive had to wait on a ten minute line ahead of time or drive down the street to a less crowded one. But ive never experienced no gas available.

I would think, if you got into GA and then went a bit out of the way off the highway, it wouldn’t be a problem. The major highway service stations, though... might be harder.

That’s my plan if it shifts and I leave SC, no interstate, just rural north Georgia into AL. With the lower highway speeds, I could in theory reach my destination with no fillups.

This shit right here is why I know every back road between where I am and cities within a 10 hour radius of me. Because evacuations are almost as terrifying as the storms that prompt them.

My mother lives in Tampa. She left yesterday to Tennessee to stay with my sister and her husband. It took her 10 hours to go 350 miles. She’s in Georgia right now.

Good reason for people to make sure they keep fuel in their tank. During the SoCal power outage I had two gallons of fuel, a 50 mile drive home, and a car that burned 1 gallon per 19 miles. I made it but had trouble getting to the gas station the next day.

If he is going 4 to 95, things should clear out after Lakeland. That’s a mess on any given Friday. On 75 it will be nasty right where the Turnpike joins 75. Remember too a lot of backroads in Florida have high speed limits (almost as high as the interstate) and many parallel the interstates. Waze is your friend.

Radio just said stations in Atlanta are already running out. It’s like when they say there might be snow. Everyone panics and fills up on gas. Can’t drive anywhere so why bother?
Also, they buy all the milk and eggs at the grocery store. Why buy 2 extremely perishable items?
