He also sells the resin he uses for the handles whenever there’s leftover. Pretty cool way to spread the creativity

My trusty kitchen knives, they have held up well for cheap kitchen aids.

Kinja'd!!!

I swapped out some for other knives, I also need a new block.

Ooooh that’s pretty and I want an orange version.

I used to collect Spyderco knives, now I’ve just got the one...a Manix 2 I’ve had for years. Best knife in the world for EDC as far as I’m concerned.

I recognized them immediately as his work. I’m a fan, but can’t afford (or justify) them at this point in my life.

You and me both. That’s why I try to stay away from the knife crowd... To many temptations that I can in no way justify. Especially when that’s “cheap” for the custom knife crowd haha

I follow a few makers who will auction off knives on instagram of all places. And people go crazy for them. It’s genius. No listing fees, everything is done through PayPal. Not this exact blade, but a very similar one sold last week for a little over $10,000 at a 24hr instagram auction, starting bid of $5 with $5 dollar minimum bid increments.

Heh, everything is sold out it seems, although I have been looking at handle ideas for some naked mora blades I’m eyeing.l so the resin could come in handy.

I’m in dire need of a decent chefs knife. My current cutlery set is one of those $20 specials you see around the holidays with an “as seen on TV” sticker. They cut butter.... Barely. Magnetic knife strip was a handy kitchen upgrade tho

For a good chef knife you be $200+ for one. I looking at having one custom made for me, I use it lots. I look at a Henkel for a good chef’s knife.

Wow, that is gorgeous!

I don’t recognize the blade material. What is that? It looks like stone grain or something.

I think he does the same with auctions. Also, his stuff moves QUICK — everytime I look, it’s sold almost immediately.

He custom makes them out of resin materials, custom molds, and other additives for different styles. Check him out at wkrmn on instagram.

I have a Mora that is probably getting close to 25 years old. People are always surprised when I demonstrate splitting a log with it. Definitely an awesome knife. Do they sell just bare blades?

I’m sort of vaguely one. Can’t afford to with the family now, but I used to spend a lot on them. I daily a variety of Benchmades.

Is that some kind of custom flipper?

You’ll be $150-$200 deep into knife that way, I’ll probably be $400-$500 deep into custom 8.5" Chef knife.

I’ve been thinking about picking up a Benchmade at some point soon, how’s the locking mechanism? I’ve heard mixed things. As much as I love my tried and true Opinel #8, something heftier would be appreciated.

Yep, custom flipper made by a friend of mine. He makes some really interesting custom resin blocks for all his handles. The topographic map above, shredded dollar bills, metallic woodgrain.... Not a bad knife by any means, but it’s certainly a form over function thing

I’ve found it to be the most natural feeling thing in the world once you use it, plus it doesn’t add thickness like a stud. That said, my Manix 2 uses a ball bearing lock and the majority of the time I just pull the lock back and swing the blade open or closed like a butterfly knife.

That is a cool flipper! I always carry a knife and end up using it almost every day between working on small electronics, working on cars, or opening beers. Ever catch that show on history “forged in fire” I’m not really big on TV, but I’m hooked on that show.

I like the Axis Lock, it’s solid and hasn’t yet let me down. That said, people do claim that the springs sometimes go on them (I haven’t experienced that in over 5 years of EDC of them, so I don’t know what they’re doing for this to happen). Once you play with one, you’ll see that it’s probably the handiest and safest lock you’ve used, as your hand really can’t be in line with the sharp edge of the blade when closing it and it allows you to open it with a wrist flick without touching the thumb stud.

I have assisted-openers with it and non-assisted, and I think the unassisted might be better because they’re lighter and thinner.

The thing that currently kind of sucks about them is that they came down hard on MAP pricing and bumped their prices even higher, so getting one at a price anywhere near that of other manufacturers is hard. You pretty much have to play sale games with the handful of manufacturers out there. My most expensive one was like $245 for a limited special edition 707-1201, which I believe was after an instant discount from the vendor that I spoke with on the phone and shipping. Pretty close to MSRP (~$260), if I recall. Like I’d absolutely love a 484-1601, 484-1, 482, and 490, but can’t justify prices north of $200 for production knives. Actually, now that I look online, the prices have dropped back some; maybe they realized they can’t charge near-custom prices for their older designs, while their newest are all really pricey. I mean, I paid $140-ish for my 581, which lists at $200 online now. I know some of these newer and more exotic steels are expensive and harder to work, but I don’t see them being worth that much of a premium.

I love knives and they’re a far cheaper hobby than most of my hobbies, but I always feel like they’re overpriced compared to guns and maybe a bit better than R/C (at least with knives, I can control myself a bit, unlike R/C, which is addictive).
