You’d think two websites both striving for equality would get along great, but you’d be wrong! The comment section of each site is just a shit show bashing their sister website.
They’re both self-riteous sites with wildly extreme views that totally contradict their own mission, and indiscriminately victimize anyone who isn’t part of their echo-chamber.
It’s basically feminist Brietbart vs black Breitbart.

As a straight white male conservative (Canadian Conservative not a US nutter), I find it difficult and likely problematic for me to comment too much on the two sites.
But, it is funny/interesting when different causes, whether both right or both left of the political spectrum, clash. It shows there are no easy solutions to any problem.

There are US conservatives who are not nutters! We didn’t vote for Trump and hate the social/religious bullshit that the far right spews. Mainly we just shake our heads, want government to be smaller and (for the most part) to leave us alone, and want government spending/waste/taxes to be lower. We really don’t have anyone to vote for at this point.

Usually their articles are an incoherent hate-filled rant against people who would otherwise be their ally.
I remember a recent article bashing “good white people.” The author rambled on about how they’re a far worse enemy than actual Confederate-sympathizing racists.
Fortunately, some level-headed person in the comments was able to articulate that the author was actually angry about non-racist white people who accidentally make the issues about themselves. For example, it’s ok for a white person to hold up a “black lives matter” sign, but not ok to hold a sign that says “white person supporting black lives.”

It’s a microcosm of the left’s constant self-destructive infighting, where mainstream Democrats try to deligitimize those to their left while moving themselves to the right, and the far left denounces (accurately but unhelpfully) them as sellouts, and subgroups within both compete fiercely to get their planks in the platform.
Still better than the choice the right seems to be setting itself between being an outright bigot, or just a coward who lets the bigots set the agenda.

I actually enjoy the Root. It’s a different view point from one which I will never know as a white man. I don’t always agree with every word written, but seeing as I am not, or will I ever a black man, It it insight about a culture different than mine. Knowledge helps me empathize better and can help me to be a better ally. I really enjoy the success stories that that they post now and again.
And as a feminist, Jez is not a feminist publication.

To me, the root seems way over the top racist. That site has a lot of anger/hate in it’s heart.

I am absolutely flabergasted by the Root. I couldn’t believe it when it started showing up on the Kotaku site banner. I go there for geek news and random shit and then to get a pipeline directly to a bunch of racist black people spouting hateful shit... wow... Irritating as hell when I click what looks like an interesting article only to discover - alas - it’s on the Root webzine and it’s full of hateful shit.
