Given recent events in Texas. We’ve learned that the supply of refined gas won’t last nearly as long as most people though it would (about 3 hours.) So with this new information, what vehicle would you want in an apocalypse since gas guzzling SUVs and trucks seem to be impractical.

We’ll assume there’s enough gas left out there for your car that must get at least 30 mpg city and 35 mpg hwy.

What would you choose Oppo?

I’ll allow it, only if there’s some kind of ridiculous theme with it. Like you have to be in a cult that thinks any technology made after 1880 is evil or something.

We have to make the apocalypse as much like fallout as possible.

First of all, why wouldn’t I dress the part? Second, have you ever seen what a Lipizzaner stallion can do to people on foot that get too close? That’s a serious zombie killer right there (I’ll assume there’s a zombie apocalypse in this fantasy because I can), and all you need in the tank is prarie grass.

I’m pretty sure they’re all multifuel engines. Most military vehicles will run on any liquid that combusts.

It’s also the car I want now. Some thing more capable than your average car, that gets 30+mpg. And I’m pretty sure you could run it on 100% ethonal if you had too. Find some smaller steel wheels, and knobbier tires, maybe build some tougher bumpers, and your set.

So basically a AWD version of the Photoshop above, because as fun as an old Suburan would be, 6mpg wouldnt get you very far.

I’d want a big electric truck with solar panels and a wood/biomass heated generator.

I’m thinking something like a mine truck, but with better suspension. Chances are that you’ll need to be able to drive over disabled cars parked on roads, have a commanding view, have space for a defense team, and space to sleep in it (if possible).

You don’t really need much for the apocalypse. The Grom holds 55mph pretty okay so you’ll get places plus almost 100mpg.

If you want to carry stuff, just get a top box or a tank bag.

It really depends on the nature of the apocalypse, and what you’re trying to do.

If you’re trying to evacuate pre -apocalypse, motorcycle if you don’t need to carry much with you. Doesn’t need to be fast, needs to be comfortable, and needs to be narrow, because you’re going to be doing a lot of lane-splitting - sure, it probably isn’t legal, but it gets you the hell out of Dodge, and faster than any car, so you’re not going to get trapped on the freeway attempting to evacuate. I’m kinda leaning towards the Honda Helix I just bought, actually. But, I’m pretty sure that’s not what you meant.

Now, the apocalypse has hit. If it’s floods, you’re turbo-fucked - and a lot of the coming natural disasters will be floods - and no car will work unless it’s an Amphicar or a Schwimmwagen or something. So, in that case, I’ll take a Schwimmwagen with a wood gas generator in the nose (to meet the fuel economy requirement - and wood gas generators were a whole thing back then in Germany):

Kinja'd!!!

Now, if the natural disaster is basically anything else... the problems will be impassable roads due to debris and/or fires, and power outages - those two will be the biggest problems with supply of goods. I’m of two minds here.

The first choice is a Prius e-Four, as your OP hints at. This should be able to do most soft-roading that’ll be needed (true off-roading is very unlikely to be necessary), with the ability to bring a fair amount of stuff with you, and even sleep in it if necessary. If you’re evacuating after the disaster, it’s going to be a really good bet, too - and disasters tend to be localized, so once you’re out of the area, fuel availability will be better:

Kinja'd!!!

(It does not actually need to be the Dazer Prius e-Four, it could just be a regular one, which is a slight lift. However, frankly, that’d help.)

However, while it’ll work great under your fuel economy constraints... I kinda want to go for another choice that’ll work better with zero fuel availability. And, what’s the best bet with zero fuel availability? A Zero DS ZF13.0 with the power tank:

Kinja'd!!!

Why an electric in an apocalypse, where there will likely be power outages? Well, it’s simple - you’re not charging it off the grid , you’re charging it off of solar panels. And, gasoline pumps also need the grid, as well as trucks being able to get into the station - if you do need grid electricity, you may still be able to charge even when a gas station is closed. So, I think you’re better off this way, and with 16.3 kWh of battery, you’ll also have a while to find a charge - Zero expects 184 miles of city range, 110 miles of 55 mph highway range, and 88 miles of 70 mph highway range.

My money would be on an electric motorcycle such as the Zero. If I had a remote homestead, I would supplement that with some sort of EV capable of towing a trailer. The fossil fuel infrastructure is too fragile to rely on, as is being demonstrated right now by the mass evacuations in Florida.
