I had a few minutes to kill after work, so I thought I’d install my well used Personal Neo Grinta in my well used Miata.

Kinja'd!!!

Step one on the road to racecardom, right? I’m going to start stripping the interior this weekend, as well as selecting the four best daisys I’ve got to be refinished, because I ordered some of these:

Kinja'd!!!

Falken Azenis RT615k+ in 195/60/14. I gather that this is some of stickiest street rubber you can get in 14", and Discount Tire has got a $75 mail in rebate going right now...I couldn’t say no for $325 a set.

Over the winter I’m going to do either coilovers or a good set of adjustable dampers, and I’d love to get a rollbar in there. I dig the Blackbird FabWorx GT3, but I’d probably settle for a Hard Dog M1 Hardcore if there’s a big price difference.

Basically I’d like it to be pretty much track ready for next year, so it’ll be a fun winter project.

Stop making me want a Miata!

That wheel does look very good

Come and live the Miata life! One of us, one of us, one of us...

The wheel is nice, just a bit small for daily use at 340mm...blocks my gauges a little. I’m going to get a 350mm one for the black car, that’ll be perfect. I’ll also need a nicer hub for that one, the one I used on this car is pretty gross.

Maybe eventually I will be a true Oppo and own an Alfa  Miata

What you really need is neo chrome quick releases, because nothing says ricer lyfe quite like neo chrome.

I’m thinking about a quick release mostly to get the wheel closer to me, but man is that thing ugly. The worst part of Miata life so far is that there are a LOT of ricer Miata owners...the ones on Opp are all excellent because Oppo, but the Facebook groups are pretty bad. All the neochrome steering wheels, stance bros, baseball hats. Basically like Subaru owners.

Plus you can take the wheel with you into Denny’s!!!!!!

I imagine they are terrible. Working at a Subaru dealer we see some... Interestingly modified vehicles come in. But then add the even cheaper cost and abundance of the Miata, I could see it getting really bad. Heck I just did a preliminary search on CL (though nothing good showed up for under $1k) and some guy wanted $875 for a giant chassis mounted wing. Lol it looked terrible.

Kinja'd!!!

I just don’t see that being effective for the vehicle.

Yeah, you’d need an LS swap for that wing to even begin to do anything for that car.

BUT BRAH!!!! Wings make you faster

I don’t think the car can go fast enough for that wing to generate any downforce. There are some deals out there...my ‘93 was $1750 with a hard top, which I sold for $800, and the car is totally rust free. If it’s taken care of, I wouldn’t shy away from mileage either...I’ve got one at 191k and one at 226 and they both seem to have lots of life left.

Of course there’s a ton of scows, like the kid down the street from me that has a gross twin to my ‘93 that, while I’d love to have one as a parts car, it doesn’t have a single panel on it better than either of my cars.

The people in my local Miata facebook group lost their minds when I listed them for $600. So bad that I actually took the post down. I ended up selling them to a nice guy for $400 who probably would have paid more.

But as you said, this local FB group are the kind of people with gross jelly shift knobs.

For what it’s worth, I’ve seen more real racers using cheap NRG quick release hubs than any other product, even the guys with $700 steering wheels or brand new Porsches gutted for track duty. They work and can be swapped out quick!

Pricing is hard to find online, so just email Blackbird if you decide to go with them and the Owner—Moti—will talk you through it. My NB GT3 bar was $1150 shipped, fits under soft tops with glass or plastic windows, and hard tops, and comes with very high quality powder coated backing plates, all the hardware, plus lots of extras if you lose a few bolts. Built in harness bar and tabs to properly mount the stock seatbelts if you want to keep them. That price also included a custom powder coat color for the bar. You can save money by getting an NA bar (doesn’t fit glass window soft tops) or a single diagonal bar instead of the gusseted x-brace.

Kinja'd!!!

Visibility is much better with the x-brace (gt3 bar) than a single, or double diagonal setup.

I think I’d go NA bar, since we’re talking about an NA that’s going to have no top on it at all and saving money is always fun. I’d definitely need an X-brace though, because the one on your car is crazy sexy.

Does Moti offer door bars as an add-on? I’m thinking come tax-refund time this is going to be the play...NA GT3 with a red powdercoat for a car that costs literally 1/4 the cost of the bar, haha.

They were offered previously with the express knowledge that they are very difficult to install correctly, and they should only be bought by very skilled mechanics with the necessary experience blah blah blah. A bunch of people ignored the warning, bought them, couldn’t install them and bad mouthed the company, so he only does door bars at his shop now. An easier to install door bar setup is apparently in the works, but no clue on timeline.

To the best of my knowledge... The only other items he offers (excluding in person work of course) are fire extinguisher kits and adjustable lexan spoilers. I did the same. Tax refund grabbed the bar, and almost the fire extinguisher but I needed tires too...

Kinja'd!!!

Here’s what I just found on RevLimiter.net. I did not buy it.

I know after the tax refund I’ll owe my wife another band for her wedding set, but that should still leave me more than enough for that bar and the seat I’m lusting over:

They even make it in a size wide enough for my fat ass!

How much self control did it take to not pull the trigger?

I wish it was easier to test seats out prior to buying. For like a week haha. I’m still searching for the perfect mix between DD and performance driving seats.

Amazingly little, given how big a fan I am of all things Doge.

I’m not in a rush to put anything but stock seats in the black car, but I figure with the red one I can go pretty much full race with no regrets. If I want to be comfortable, I’ll just drive the other Miata, haha.

Really? Hmm, my coworker does dirt circle track and he used to use a single stage release hu, but the thing broke and so he got a nice expensive two stage one and I just assumed that what all real racing guys used.
