I saw one of these Louis XIV sideboards on a flatbed tow truck yesterday. I dearly hope it was parked illegally or the driver was otherwise nabbed rather than a breakdown.

They do that because the tips are basically a part of the bumper and if the pipe actually connected it could melt the bumper.
