I found this pristine E55 AMG today on the way back from the pet store. This is undoubtedly a cool car, however, Carfax says that it is a 2001, and Wikipedia seems to imply that there’s something special about the 2001 m/y vehicles. Can anyone tell me anything else about this?

My boss has (or maybe had, I haven’t seen it in a while) a ‘99 that looks pretty much identical to this one that he bought new.

The Wiki article reads as if the 2001 model was just limited production as opposed to other later years.

Wiki has weird production number data for 2001, but I don’t know if it is really substantiated. There’s also a huge difference between production and US/NA sales.

What can really make one of these rare is options. Designo , Parktronic seem to be the rarest options.

Not a fan of those headlight rings.

Looks like mine! Same year even! Which is obviously the best year. For top secret reasons.

We’ve had a 99 and 02 w210 AMG. What an awesome car! They are quite rare here in the US, and are pretty bulletproof. They got a face lift in 2000, so this has the updated side skirts and bumpers, which look great! The best thing about these cars are the wheels, which are extremely easy to clean and look great! I haven’t heard anything about m/y 2001 being special, but wiki may just be talking about the facelift? Either way, both cars were a ton of fun and even with high miles can be a pleasure to drive.
