....and as such, they are voicing their displeasure over it non-stop today.
They’re at each other’s throats. A fitting end to what was a relatively bad summer here in NY.... Shitty weather abounded. I closed up the pool this morning. Got sick and tired of it. I did more to it this year than the previous 5 combined maintenance-wise and just could not keep it clear. I’m a warm/hot weather person. This year; in saying bring the cold in hopes it flushes out all the rain we had this spring and summer too.

*Sigh* such a letdown after last summer...

You could say to them “enjoy summer while you can, because I work every week, all year, until I retire”. Kids hate perspective.

My kids went back to school on 8/22 and it was everything I thought it could be. I’ve got two starting middle school and one starting high school this year. Good times and homework abound.

Salt/Chlorine generator systems are the best thing ever. Least amount of pool maintenance you can have. I know lots of people are “told” that their pools won’t work for it (told by the people selling them chemicals every year), but look into it.

After initial setup , you set your timers and then barely have to test the water for the rest of the summer.

My work schedule is 4 days on, 4 days off. My wife is a teacher. I get 20 days off from work vacation time every year.... They know this. Side note: wife went back to work today (NYC teacher, we live on Long Island). They’re pissed about that too.....

I’m still not used to how early school starts here in CO. My son started on 8/17, which seems so strange to me. Thankfully, he still enjoys school (2nd grade, I know the worst is yet to come).

I was lucky enough that when we went back to our camp in northern NY earlier this summer, it was nice weather the week we were there. Water temp wasn’t the greatest, but tolerable.

It wasn’t so much the amount of chemicals as it was the flushing of the filtration system. Every week this year as opposed to twice a season in previous years. Pollen season usually ends in June when the temps get higher here. The trees were dropping it heavy in mid July this year....

I use a sand filter, then backwash when the pool becomes overfull due to rain.

I could see that being an issue if you lived where it doesn’t rain as much.

I have a rather large cartridge filter with a 2 H.P. pump on a 24x12 above ground oval; about 6000 gallons... The cartridges last about 3-4 years depending. This one is on its 3rd year. I may swap it now and keep the filter hooked up for a couple of weeks and run some straight Clorox through the system before I do the drain down (I wait until it’s in the low 40s to disconnect the filter).

Wish me luck....

We’ve been back to school for three weeks already!

I started with the cartridges on my above ground pool as well. I wasn’t happy with their performance. And when the included pump (hung off bottom of skimmer) died after about 1 month, I ponied up for the sand filter/pump combo. No regrets.

See mine’s a standalone filter with separate pump. Neither hang from the skimmer. Up until this year it was better than even the DE setups I had. My aunt has one that hangs. It’s quite useless. Undersizing filtration is a common pool issue.

Agreed...stand alone is much better. My neighbor had DE and only had marginal success. Sand plus salt is the way to go.
