How much is a preferred color worth?

Debating Miatas still and I just really don’t like the idea of owning a black/gray car. Let alone paying $20k+ for the privilege.

Made up my mind to buy a white one for $23k in Wisconsin (close to me) but I ran the carfax and it was a lemon. This one with some mods just came up for sale and I’m really thinking about it.

Kinja'd!!!

Dislike the pin stripping and wing, but I could live with it for the red seats. Really don’t want a drab interior again.

But, this is a better deal :

Kinja'd!!!

The color though just isn’t what I want.

Also, I like this guy’s honesty but its black.

Kinja'd!!!

“I need back seats for grandkids. I’m a dumbass.”

Honestly I think a grand might be worth to drive the car I really want.

Considering I tried to take on a $1000/month car loan to get an M3 in the color I wanted, I think it’s worth it to spend a little more and get exactly what you want. Every time you see one in the color you wanted you’ll be like damn, I should have spent a little extra. Since they only sold 1055 LCI E90 M3s, I don’t constantly have that reminder that I didn’t get my first choice in color.

I’d say $1,000 is easily worth the premium to get the color you’ll enjoy more! Honestly, I’d say even $2-3,000 would be understandable for the perfect color/options. You’re (presumably) going to be driving this car ~every day for several years. You want a color that you’re going to love to look at.

The wing and pinstripes are horrible, and the red leather seats are obviously aftermarket since the Club only comes with cloth upholstery.

Neither of these has Brembos.

I’d pay at least an extra grand to get me a club in that delicious Soul Red.

I won’t even consider a car that’s the wrong color. CP at any price.

To quote Sandra Bullock from The Blind Side, “Well, one thing I know about shopping is that if you don’t absolutely love it in the store, you won’t wear it. The store is where you like it best. So before you choose something, think of yourself wearing it and say to yourself: Is this me?”

Sounds like a gray/black car isn’t you, so just be patient for the right color. Miata’s are plentiful. You won’t have to wait long.

I’m passionate about how a car looks, and I like bright colors. That said, I won’t pay up for a particular color, I’ll just buy a different car!

When I bought the S3 I had a real hard time getting a blue one. Red and blue are the toughest “standard” colors to come by, and I didn’t want red. The salesman told me that I need to start thinking about other colors...I told him it was Sepang blue or a BMW. They finally got one from a dealer in Ohio (I’m near Philadelphia).

I get this. I love the Miata, but you can’t get any interesting colors! All they have is red, and I’m just not a red guy. I’m also sick of black or gray interiors.

The color really makes the car. I loved the way my RX-8 looked in that gorgeous blue. I didn’t like it in any other color. It just didn’t look good to me.

My patience is being tested by my 203,000 mile Crossfire. But you’re right, slightly used ones are constantly popping up for sale.

Nice! But buying used makes it a touch more difficult. I’m not trying to spend $30k.

I’ll take aftermarket quality or not, to add a splash of color to that interior. I like the Miata’s interior, but I’m just not a fan of straight black.

Color preference (for me): white - red - gray - black.

Ones for sale in my price range: black - gray - white - red.

I like this take. After 110,000 miles in a Crossfire its safe to presume I’ll be in my next car a fair amount, should enjoy the time.

Don’t get me wrong, the space grey has really grown on me, but I still would rather have a white one. There was an Alpine White slicktop E90 behind me in traffic one day and all I could think was damn, I could have that. I’ve actually considered selling mine and getting a white one, but it’s not 2014 and low mileage single owner E90s with a 6MT are incredibly hard to find.

So yeah, spend a little more and get the color you want.

You can look at the prices and options for a CST interrior to get an idea if the value of a non bland interrior. I would be patient and try and find the color you want since you will live with it.

For me, it’s worth a lot. I’m actually really weird about this but, I plan on buying a “Pure Red” Subaru BRZ. I want a red one so bad that no other color will do. I also if I buy it I plan to keep it forever so I feel like my pickiness is justified.

I think its worth paying extra for the color you want, but how much I’d say is a matter of what you are comfortable spending. Manufacturers are so boring with their color options. A ND with the Montego Blue Mica color like my NA would be AMAZING.

Definitely worth getting the color you want. You know who buys a color they don’t like to save $1000? Corolla buyers. “I’d like green, I hate red” “I don’t have green, I have red and I’ll knock $10 a month off the payment” “Sold!”

I shouldn’t be in a “rush” but the Crossfire is showing its age more and more. I was actually going to use it as an excuse to go south and visit my sister. So fly down and drive it back.

I love the car and seats especially. Going to be tough to ditch the pinstripe and wing, looks like they drilled the trunk to install that.

I think it depends on the value of the car. When I was car shopping in the sub $4000 range the color didn’t really matter unless it was beige (never again) because I’m more interested in just finding a car with solid mechanicals. But if I was spending say $20,000 the color would matter a lot more to me because it should be solid at that price.

Totally go for the color you want. I still kick myself for not leaping on a rare ‘02 Laser Blue Miata. I was convinced I could swap over everything from my silver ‘02 to that one over a few weekends until I realized I don’t have that time.

Also, if you want to change the color of the interior, go aftermarket. There’s a guy on Miata.net’s forum selling Nakamae ‘93 LE-red leather interior trim for a ND.

https://forum.miata.net/vb/showthread.php?t=649675

Edit: holy shit for go that white one. You can probably swap trunks with another white ND who wants it. Those are Advanti Storm S1 wheels, some of the lightest and most affordable wheels for Miatas! Also, the wing is the GT Wing (Type 1) from CarbonMiata, who sells good-quality CF parts. https://www.carbonmiata.com/shop/mazda-mx-5/gt-wing-2/

Haha, wait it out as long as you can. I’m a firm believer that the perfect car for the driver will more or less fall into your lap.

When I was shopping Rangers I balked at the one that I ended up buying at first. Then I went to look at a bunch of others that didn’t work out for one reason or another. Finally I decided to go and look at mine. It was nicer than it looked in pics, and I had time to digest options that I thought I cared about when really all I wanted was a 6cyl, extended cab, in really nice condition.
