As someone working on laptops for an elementary school at this very moment, you are causing much gnashing of teeth.

There’s the occasional sticker to peel off, and that means the rubbing alcohol comes out, because everything has been on there for yeeeaarrs and will leave that sticky/papery residue that really never comes off.

How do you like the Chromebook?

I really want to like them more, and I have a first gen samsung chromebook, but as much as I want to use it, I find myself ignoring it most days. Great for basic things, but literally nothing beyond that. I could write on it all day long, I can watch Netflix or YouTube, but once it gets to things like Amazon Prime or anything more than super basic use, it’s game over....

As someone who formerly did that (worked for a district with 6 elem, 1 middle, and 1 highschool with over 2000 devices), I agree with you.

How dare you spread your power-sliding, tire-chirping agenda into our public schools!

Please be considerate next time when using school property. I used to work IT in a school district, and the number one cause of work for me was fixing vandalized computers. Whether it were a sticker, a damaged keyboard, desktop defacing, broken screens, etc. I would then have to coordinate with school officials to try and track down the person that did this which resulted in more lost time. This was time I could have spent working on much more important issues like maintaining and upgrading things like the network. Many schools have a limited amount of devices for students to use. Unfortunately it’s almost never 1 computer to 1 student. So when a computer gets vandalized, it becomes IT’s priority to fix it immediately so that all students have as much access to technology as possible.

Should be noted I have the chromebook for the year. I promise you this won’t end up with in talesfromtechsupport.

It’s good for the most basic of things. Can’t say much considering everything is blocked on it.

Is there anything that worked with you for anything stuck on plastic? The aluminum is okay to deal with, but the plastics seem to hold on to the sticker-material pretty well. Alcohol only gets me so far, slowly.

Oh god the glue left over is terrible. Thankfully we didn’t have too many incidents of stickers, mostly just damaged/re-arranged keyboards. I think we tried rubbing alcohol. The only other thing I could think of is goo gone

Goo-gone and acetone took the finish off the Unibody MacBooks and iPad cases, so I was thinking maybe mineral oil or vinegar when I have some nearby.

We got Chromebooks my senior year of high school 14-15. My school offered insurance for $50 which covered replacement of broken Chromebooks.. Needless to say, my friends group made sure to get our moneys worth out of the insurance by doing things such as Chromebook football.. (imagine football with a Chromebook instead of a ball...)

Why do people buy (what is essentially) a half-neutered ultrabook?

Then again, I bought myself a display model of a big, bulky gaming laptop so I guess I shouldn’t say much.

I have a big bulky gaming laptop as well, but for most things all you need is the basics which is what the Chromebook offers, also the Chromebook is the lightest and smallest laptop I have.
