Well after a few weeks of debating about it I’ve come to the conclusion to unload the Z. I really need something 4x4 for getting to work in the snow. Gave her a last bath tonight and gonna take pics for Craigslist in the AM. Also it’s amazing how much caked on brake dust gets on matte rims. Also brings me to my next question. When/ what kind of discounts do you guys think are going to be offered on the outgoing ‘17 wrangler when the new one gets revealed.

Yep airport ops we don’t get off. Normally they put us up in a hotel nearby prior to the storm but I want something with 4x4 for when it’s time to go home. Also I really miss my old jeep so I’m looking into buying my 1st new car

Chiefs truck isn’t mine it’s my dads. I work in airport ops in north jersey so we have to show up to keep the lights on.

Sad to see that, but dude, hang out more! I know that you’ve got one hell of a commute, and it doesn’t help that I moved hella far away, but keep in touch!

I was closer for a little while in Bloomfield then I moved back to Toms River in June after a falling out with my landlord. Planning on moving back up to the linden area next month so I’ll be around again soon

Car Guys recommended Subarus right up until they went off the air. Or CPO BMW AWD 3 series wagon?

How many doors do you want on the new wrangler?

I wish i wasn’t planning to buy a bike and if I had a little longer commute..I’d somehow make it work to buy that Z

Speaking from experience driving in lots of Wisconsin snow, something with a center differential for full-time 4wd or awd is much more useful for the majority of on-road snow driving. Driving around with a locked part-time system like in the Wrangler makes the vehicle much more inclined to switch ends in turns, and you have to shift back into 2wd to keep the driveline from binding up when you want to park.

I had both a WJ and a WK Grand Cherokee, and they were awesome on-road snow vehicles. Especially my WK which had LSDs on both the front and rear axles, and General Grabber AT2 tires. The only time I ever locked the transfer case in either of those was one time when I did donuts with my WJ in an unplowed parking lot after a big snowstorm.

I also spent some time with a 4Runner with part time 4wd and it was an annoying exercise in driving around in 2wd until the road got bad enough to put it in 4H and then putting it back in 2wd to park.

I know they’re not “real Jeeps,” but the Trailhawk versions of the Renegade, Compass or Cherokee, with their all-terrain tires, raised ride height, and extra 4wd gizmos, would all be better than a Wrangler for your intended purpose of getting to work through the snow.

The Tigershark 2.4 liter 4 banger is rather unrefined and crappy, but you can get a 3.2 liter Pentastar V6 in the Cherokee Trailhawk that’s pretty nice.

I would get that waaaaayyyyy before a Wrangler.

Honestly not even sure how much I’m gonna get for her at this point 167k w/ rebuilt title from previous owner. Ive had it for something like 6 years with no issues besides wear and tear parts. Just did clutch/flywheel/steering rack and pinion/rear brakes last year. This past month was full front brakes(pads rotors calipers) a hub bearing and fresh tires. Paint on the roof is starting to clearcoat peel cuz red z why not. I just know I’m gonna put her up soon and see what I can get

I really need something 4x4 for getting to work in the snow.

That’s a funny way to spell “winter tires.”

Winter tires on a z with no TCS don’t do shit in deep snow. Plus I wanna be able to beach it in the summer. Really though it’s more of an I’d like 4x4. Plus I really want a wrangler again. I had one for 4 years, sold it for the z, then dailyed the z for almost 6 years

I always turned off the t/c in my GTO in the MN winters I drove it in. The tires will do more than you think. I did have to give up once in the 9 winters, because of the depth of unplowed snow. You’ve got a LSD, right?

Nope open diff. It’s base with open diff no stability no tcs. It was great for highway runs between campuses in college but like I said I’m really looking for another wrangler. I miss the hell out of my old one

Missing a Wrangler is a better excuse than a cop-out. ;)

I also don’t understand modern sporty cars coming with open diffs. And yet, apparently, we as consumers continue to allow it.

It’s an 06 so it’s not that new and yea you’re right it’s a cop out definitely more a want than a need.

09/04/2017 at 23:25, STARS: 0

Various types of limited slip diffs have been around for over half a century, so new is relative.

Wranglers are cool, too. Not many things compare to driving around without doors or a roof.

I’m a “right tool for the job” guy, and nothing about a short wheelbase 4x4 with no center diff and M/T tires is the right tool for your stated purpose of getting to work on unplowed snowy/icy/otherwise wintry roads.

M/T tires are terrible at braking in snow and especially ice, and a locked transfer case can’t vary the amount of power going to a particular wheel in response to changing road conditions.

What you need is something with a center diff and proper snow tires, or at least A/T tires with good snow ratings.

If you’re selling your sports car to get something good at getting you to work in winter, then at least buy something that’s actually suited to the task. Wranglers are great for many things but they’re far from the top of the list of good on-road winter vehicles.

It’s gonna be my daily and I guess the winter stuff is just my justification for it. Really it just boils down to I want a wrangler again and I’m in a position to afford a new car and not another used one

And the truth comes out haha!

I had a feeling this was really “I just want a Wrangler,” and not actually “I want a good on-road snow vehicle and I think the Wrangler is a good choice.”

If that’s the case then so be it. Just don’t put M/T’s on it and expect it to brake at a stop sign.

It’s a Wrangler, almost nothing would be my guess. Wranglers are too damn popular and hold their value beyond belief. I would think we would see little in mark downs. I have had 4, I love Wranglers. I would buy another in a heartbeat. Granted, I had 3 YJ’s and 1 TJ. I skipped the JK, but there are 3 JK’s in my family.

Don’t sell it, you’ll miss it like 10 days after it’s gone. I’ve been down this path a few times. Drive the beater when the weather is ultra-shit, and you can still drive the Z when there isn’t snow in the forecast.

I spent a few years with a Corvette and an old Cherokee in the garage. The Jeep was is beat to death, but the 4x4 worked. I only drove the Jeep when there was snow coming, drove the nice car the rest of the time. Worked great until I made a fatal mistake and sold my Corvette to buy... another Jeep. Now I live in Corvette-free sadness.

Even McLarens and whatnot come with them now apparently. They can do more with an open diff and that brake BS. Not saying that’s what’s on a Z34, but that’s what some manufacturers have been up to.

I was bummed when I learned my new car doesn’t even have a VLSD :(

But it works decently well with the current crap tires anyway. Figure I won’t feel anything until I get some real meat on the car.

How did you like the 350?

My impression of the Zs is that children on the internet don’t like them but buyers (ie. The ones that matter) do and that’s why the 300ZX sold more than the NSX, RX7, Supra and 3000GT combined. How do you feel about that statement as an owner?

Haters gon hate lol. They get a bad rep due to the fact that depreciation has put them within reach of the shitbox Honda crowd. In reality though it’s been a great car for years. I’ve put somewhere around 88k on it in 5.5 years and I loved every minute of it when it was running fine. Recently though it’s reliability has suffered a bit but that has more to do with my 180 mile a day commute on shitty nj roads than it has to do with the car itself. Had a bunch of regular wear and tear parts go bad around the same time so it’s been rough. Originally I had planned on upgrading to a 370z this year because I enjoyed the 350 that much but after realizing I can afford a new jeep I’m going to shoot for that since I miss my first car so bad which was a 94 wrangler.
