Should I?

I left some fairly negative (2/5) feedback for a recent transaction on Amazon. I picked the seller because they were fairly close and had a decent price on the battery I needed. Surprisingly, they had an estimated delivery amount very three weeks away. I could have gotten it from China in that amount of time. Second warning was that I didn’t get any tracking information until a week later, after I had requested it. Even then it took almost a week since there was any valid sign that the package had actually moved.

I eventually received it, and it did the job, but the delays left a bitter taste in my mouth. I received a message from the seller offering a double refund if I would retract my feedback. We’re only talking about getting $19 back. They had all sorts of reasons why the were so late on, well, everything, but I’m not really buying it. The money isn’t an issue, but questionable business practices are.

So, should I take the money and let others fall in to the same trap, or should I stand firm and let my honest assessment remain?

Weird I just went through a similar amount of bollocks on Amazon myself. I bought an office chair which arrived defective and ended up battling for over a month trying to get a refund.

The seller also offered a refund in exchange for me dropping my claim but I was having none of that and in the end I forwarded that offer to Amazon themselves who promptly through them off their marketplace and issued me my refund finally.

So I say make them suffer because they have an easy job in all this which plenty of others can do with minimal fuss.

I bought a ChemE book off of amazon. It turned out to be the international version. I gave them 1/5 stars. They wanted me to remove the negative feedback, I told them to go to hell.

Stand firm and report to Amazon. Seller is shady AF.

Paying a dissatisfied customer to remove a negative review seems like it goes against Amazon’s ToS. I’d tell them the review stays and notify Amazon they tried to buy your silence.

You should be very specific in your review why you gave them a low rating, for service.

If the product would have been 5/5 stars, then make sure you let other readers know that.

Curiously, what was the expected delivery time listed as before you placed your order? And ultimately it took three weeks?

$19 will be gone in a heartbeat.

The money might seem like a fair reimbursement for your trouble, but this isn’t about the seller’s interest in making things right (if it was, you’d get the refund anyway, regardless of the feedback). Nor is it about whether you’re one to hold a grudge. This is about the feedback. And the whole reason feedback exists is to inform future buyers about what they’re in for when dealing with the product or seller in question.

Amazon lets you edit feedback, right? I’d consider giving future buyers a heads-up about the seller’s offer. Some of them will be turned away over the hassle, some will be turned away over the bribery, and some might consider it worth the trouble.

I once heard a comic do a bit about how 2/5 is the worst review you can leave. Because if you’re leaving a 1/5 stars it’s really about you, and not the product, service, or seller.

I say stand firm. $20 is not worth your integrity. If it was 10 times that much I may be inspired to take the bribe.

I think trying to pay you off to remove the negative review is quite shitty.

They did say it was going to take a few weeks, but of course this was discovered after the order was placed. It didn’t seem logical since they’re in NJ and I’m in MO. I just assumed the long time frame was a CYA issue that they give to everyone regardless of where they are in the US.

But no tracking number until I requested it? And no movement of the package for a week after the tracking number was given? Flaky AF...

Is the truth — and protecting other patrons from a similar lousy transaction — worth a whole $19 to you?

Agreed. I think I misread this as a 2-star product review, vs seller feedback.
