Just think, a few years ago sending over 300 hp to the front wheels in a consumer car was more unthinkable than firing 707 hp to the rear. Now we have the most powerful fwd production car on the planet starting at less than $40,000! Luxurious interior, mature styling, the wicked sound of those cylinders as they climb past 5,000 rpm. It may be electronically limited to 350 hp but you still get the 400 lb-ft of torque.

The car you seriously don’t want to mess with on the highway is a Lincoln, of course!

Isn’t that AWD? In that case, that crown would go to something like the RS7 Performance.

What’s even crazier now is the sheer weight that we are able to accelerate at supercar levels. Those new SUV-crossover-coupe things have some funny 0-60 stats. The Continental GT has a 5060 lb. curb weight and basically 4 seconds to 60mph.

Freaky thing is that the Grand Cherokee Trackhawk and the Camaro ZL1 have nearly identical power figures and identical 0-60 mph and quarter mile times. It’s like weight no longer matters outside of handling!

It’d be interesting to see how the 30-100 times compared. With that amount of power, 4WD traction is a pretty good tradeoff against weight at launch, but the difference will start to show once the 2WD guy can put it all down.

America needs more powerful FWD hot hatches. Sure I’m fine with a 15, or even a 10 year rule to allow the car to have depreciation hit at its fullest, but not a 25-year rule.

Time has passed but it’s still a shit idea. And if that styling is mature, so is the Mirai
