Kinja'd!!!

Being Dutch, getting myself a bike to get around Toronto is a logical thing to do. So meet my cheap-ass Supercycle Phantom! It’s so bright that it must be impossible to lose it, haha.

Getting a bike here in Canada is slightly different than back home though. Here the cheapest ones are mountainbikes, while granny-like bikes are more expensive (and I wanted gears due to me living quite a bit above downtown Toronto where my university is, when you look at it from a Dutch perspective)

Didn’t know you where Dutch btw, any interest in joining one of the Europpomeets? We’re quite a diverse but very friendly group of people.

no worries mate... tbh... i should be annoyed at myself too for riding around on a mountainbike even tho a nanny bike would be cheaper and just as usefull... as theres no hill to be found for about 50 miles in any direction where i am

In person, there are 2 large multi day meets planned for 2018. Though several members go to more local events together sometimes (which obviously is cheaper and costs less time). Where in the Netherlands do you approximately live?(if I may ask)

Tip: if you wanna keep that thing for the duration of your stay get a good lock. It looks shiny and will attract attention.

Seriously? I’m in Groningen. When I’m in NL that is, which I currently am. Next big meet: Wales, 2018, around Easter. This year you’ve missed the Alps (June, 7 people) and Spa/Nürburgring (March, 19 people). Both of those were 3 days, Wales will be more like 5 days or so although less is always an option.

Eww, poopercycle.

Looks well taken care of. Still, I’m betting on the grip shifters shitting the bed at a minimum. Probably the entire shifting mechanism too. Meh it’s cheap transport

It only needs to work for like 3 months, so I’m just going to be easy on the shifters and mechanism, and hope for the best.

Good luck. I thought those shifters were the coolest things when I was a kid... but they were utter shit.

Anyway, enjoy Toronto!

Not bad! I have an ancient 15-year-old (at least) CCM Riptide in my shed that I really have to get working again to get myself some exercise. It’s not been used in like...7 years, so it’s going to need new tubes and tires, and a lube job...and definitely an adjustment of the shifters as those were never adjusted right since I got it and I never did anything to them :P

Looks exactly like this with knobbier tires, plus the upward highway handlebars on the ends of the normal handlebars.

Mine also came with a factory water bottle holder on the center bar, and I have a bike lock mount on the rear vertical bar that holds my solid U-shaped bike lock when not in use....oh, and amber reflector on the front and a red reflector on the back rather than the white-only ones in this pic.
