She’s got everything a gearhead needs - a V8, disk brakes, RWD, and two doors.

Oh...and 865 cu. ft. of trunk space.

Yeah, it’s a U-Haul E-350 17' box truck that I need because...

I just bought my first house and I’m moving next weekend! . I’ve never driving anything this... big before, so if anyone has any tips, I’m all ears.

It’s not that bad, but backing up is a PITA.

Take it easy and slow, and don’t forget that it’ll take you a while to stop. Besides, you don’t want to slam in the brakes and toss your stuff around the back.

On backing up, just use good spotters - the reality is that you’re farther away from stuff than you think looking through your mirrors.

Oh and don’t forget height clearance at the gas station haha

Give the curb extra room in right turns. Also keep in mind that when you make a hard turn in one direction the bit of truck behind the rear axles is going to swing out in the opposite direction. We have trucks of similar size (and larger) at work, and after backing into things the most common accident drivers have is the tail of the truck swinging into something.

How fast are they driving that they’re getting the tail out? I feel like you’d really have to hustle one of those things to have that problem.

Congratulations!

But if it’s an E-350 box, it’s probably a V10, not a V8.

I think what Dusty is saying is there is so much truck behind the rear axle that when you turn the back end actually rotates out past the path the tires are taking.

It’s not a speed thing, it’s a physics thing. Try this. Take a ruler and lay it on the table with the 1 inch mark pointed away from you and the 12 inch mark pointed towards you. Put another object (doesn’t matter what it is) on the right side of the ruler towards the 12 inch end with about half an inch of space between them. Now take your left hand and put your finger on the left side of the ruler at the 9 inch mark, making sure your finger is touching the ruler. Your finger represents the rear axle of the truck. Now with your right hand slide the 1 inch end of the ruler to the left, simulating a left turn. The ruler will rotate around your finger (the rear axle) and the 12 inch end of the ruler will pendulum to the right, hitting the object you put on the table next to the ruler.
