Kinja'd!!!

I find myself in Stockholm for a few days and as it happens tomorrow is the 50th anniversary of the day when the Swedes decided (or had it decided for them: they said “nej” in a referendum) to turn to the dark side and drive on the right. Not all of them, mind. Trains still keep left. Anyway I felt the need to buy the T-shirt. This one.

And the odd thing is.... that picture seems to be staged because the actual change was in the early morning. Anyone on the road was required to pull over, wait something like twenty minutes and then to proceed on the other side.

There are a few other places in Europe that drive on the right but trains and trams drive on the left, quite a few in Italy.

Like the Swedes the Italians decided to change on the road but couldn’t be bothered for the railways. I was caught out by that in Italy last year when I turned up at the platform only to see the train arriving on the other side!

There are some mountain roads where you drive on the opposite side so you can see where the edge is too.
