Kinja'd!!!

A brief history of The GT86 in America:

First sold as a beautiful piece of a machinery as the Toyota 86 In Japan and every other place in the world, it was loved by all.

Then, when it made its way to North America it decided to rebrand itself as the Scion FR-S in order to provide closure to a fallen brand, where the people who bought it would proceed to put its Toyota badges back on

Then, when Scion fell to the gates of hell, it proceeded to run back to Toyota and Re-Re-Brand itself as the Toyota 86, Again.

Excludes The Subaru BRZ

I need a completely stock “Pure Red” Manual Transmission BRZ in my life. It’s the one of the first things I’m buying when I get finally get my degree, at least that’s the plan.

And with how its doing now, I dont think we are going to see a second gen for a couple reasons: everyone that wanted one, has one, which has caused sales to pretty much fall off, and Toyota’s performance balls aren’t big enough for them to have 2 performance cars in their lineup. I would bet money on this: when the Supra comes to market soon, the 86 is leaving.

The good news is you can find both the 86/FRS/BRZ for good prices on the used market.

I love the Toyobaru twins.  If my Miata died in a horrible unfixable way today and I didnt just get another Miata, I would buy an FRS/86/BRZ tomorrow no question. I still may some day have both my Miata and an 86 once I have space, just because I need a dedicated track car and a fun street car and having two miatas is silly.

I would love one as a fun car but my kids have killed my fun car budget for the time being.

My dream for when I get to have a learners permit is to get a $20k budget from my parents, buy a salvage FR-S, repair it, put a Rocket Bunny V3 kit on it, turbo it, and then daily it until I die

Hey, if Toyota could have an all sports car lineup in the 90's, I really hope it can do it again

Hey, I bet you could trade in that solara and only have to pay $1k. BRZFRS86's aren’t that expensive

How old are your kids? If they’re below the age of 7 you’re screwed. If they’re that age or older maybe you can find a cheap lightly damaged BRZFRS86 on copart and repair it like I did with my dad and his Civic. Plus it would make a great story on oppo. (Mine is coming up later)

P.S: Here’s one I found that only needs bumpers: http://www.copart.com/lot/34791757

My Toyota is kinda high miles, not for a Toyota though. 209,000 miles like new (not quite), but still, no rust, no problems whatsoever, just some dings and scuffs). It’s worth 3 or 4 grand tops. My plan is to keep the Toyota as a winter car and long haul, interstate road trip, vehicle. The BRZ will be my spring, summer, autumn, daily. Also want a Suzuki TU250 motorcycle for riding back roads with my dad and brother on their bikes.

Haha $20k budget is crazy for a new driver! I was super excited to have a $1000 budget when I got my first car. That $900 Honda got me through 5 years of life, damn thing was the most dependable piece of crap and eventually sold for $1400, a nice profit! But really I’m glad to have had a piece of junk, really gave me perspective about what simple cars can be to work on and enjoy.

I dont think that will ever happen again. For whatever reason the last 10 years or so has seen the Japanese move away from performance and only the last 5 seeing any resurgence (with the exception of Nissan which has had the GT-R,350/370Z’s and various attempts from Infiniti) especially Honda and Toyota.

I want one though. Badly. But I have a 7 year old...

Honda has the Type R, Toyota has the 86 and Supra, and Infiniti has the beautiful QX (The Coupe, I think(?))

Atleast they are making an effort. One things for sure though: Das Germans are on top of the game

Honda just brought the Type R to the US. Outside of the Si, they’ve been on a dry spell since the S2000 left in 09. Acura was even worse. They took literally 10 years to bring the NSX to market from when the original concept was shown.

Before the 86/FR-S came, Toyota hadnt had anything sporty here since the Supra left in 98, with Lexus getting the good stuff. And even as it stands now theres only the 86, upcoming Supra and F at Lexus is a joke. They are trying though. But its all very recently and it sucks that its been that way. Almost everyone else has been on top of their game except them. Hell Chrysler was making SRT vehicles and they went through a bankruptcy.
