it’s called “which one of these is the intermittent short that’s causing the battery to drain down and the charging system to malfunction?”

I got it started and running and the system indicated it was charging! yahoo!

so then I stuffed all the wires back in and buttoned up the panels....

and it wouldn’t start any more :|

and there’s huge voltage drain somewhere...

My weekend will involve spools of primary wire and a hearty “fuck this shit that was here before” atitude.

it’s gotta be running right for the next hay cut.

Directions unclear, wiring looks like spaghetti....

I do wonder if a new terminal block and rewiring would be faster than chasing down the fault.

I would just put a battery disconnect switch on the terminal.

plan to do that, but I ordered a fancy panel mount one from Amazon with one day shipping and fucking UPS had a “carrier delay” :P

thats sort of what I’m doing.... Most of the long pigtails out to lights and stuff are fine, its just the charging system (long since disabled) saftey interlocks and dash wire that are so fubar. I’m attempting to delete superfluous wires as I go

Those bare sections of wire sticking outside of the butt connectors are freaking me out.

Pic #1 everything looks a bit dusty but nothing seems too bad.

Pic #2 those bare bits of metal if they touch chassis could drain the battery, if the connectors are still tight wrap the exposed bits in electrical tape.

Could use a multimeter to check each branch wire for shorts to chassis using the beepy continuity function.

But yeah wonky spaghetti bowl wiring is the worst. Sometimes easier to just start over.
