Time to go find some not broken horns

I’m armed with a socket set and list of cars that use the same connector as my truck. Top priority goes to the Buicks, since they always seem to have louder horns than anything else. The Cobalt is a last resort since they have more wimpy horns.

I’m kinda thinking of getting 4 horns and two more connectors and wiring them up in parallel to the connectors already on the truck and have 4 horns for more loud.

Are you taking a voltage source with you to test with or thinking that horns that age should work? I ask because I need a horn for the Camaro, it only has one of the two it’s supposed to have and sounds like a congested goat, and horns that age are definitely iffy. I’d like to know what other people use to test with.

The last junkyard I bought parts from also sold used batteries. They let me use one of them and a couple jumper wires to test a horn before I bought it. Could call to ask before you go to see if one near you will do that or not.

That’s good idea. The cars I need to pull from are always at the very far end of the yard and carrying a car battery that far wouldn’t be fun but I can always use one of their wheelbarrows.

The nice thing about taking your own battery is with long enough leads you wouldn’t have to take it out of the car to test it. The fewer rusty bolts I have to fight the better. I can see needing to grab three to take to the office to find one that even works if the car is old enough.

I’m saving this for future reference

This might not even be all of the cars that have the same connectors. I tried to remember what was most common at the junk yards here and checked their connector end views against the one for my truck.

I ended up with two Grand Prix horns which are a pair of horns wired together on a shared bracket and they’re right behind my bumper and are incredibly loud aimed right at the ground.

I just grabbed a bunch of horns and hoped for the best. 6 horns were only $10 so it wasn’t too bad.
