I’ve had my SV for a long time now, and it’s always been my favorite street bike. I’ve been on a ton of demo rides, but every time I got back on the SV, I still felt satisfied. All the other bikes I’d been cross shopping were either too heavy, or too powerful (for reasonable road use), too uncomfortable, or too expensive to justify a swap. With the GSXR fork swap there’s not a lot that feels like an SV in corners and has the same grunt coming out. So I’ve spent years honing and improving my SV to be the best an SV can be.
Yesterday I tried out a Street Triple R and I’m pretty sure the SV is ruined for me. It takes everything the SV does well and does it just a little bit better. Factory stock it rides like I’ve been trying to make the SV ride since I started modifying it. and it does so while being lighter, just as comfortable, and faster. The engine note and character is spot on, flawless. Getting back on the SV after the test felt like something was missing, today riding in to work felt like something was missing. I’ve never had that feeling on it before.
I think I’m going to buy the one pictured above this weekend

I was reading the first paragraph and literally thinking, “this guy should try a Street Triple”, and then I scrolled down haha.

I was floored, it’s the first bike I’ve ridden where I came out thinking “yeah, I’m going to buy that”
Nothing else has done that, not anything in the KTM line, the Tuono, the FZ10/9/7, the Hypermotard, all supersports, all left me feeling thankful for certain things on the SV. Not this thing, it’s like they had a picture of me sitting on the wall in the design phase and were like “let’s build a bike for that guy”

Haha that’s awesome. It’s a really good feeling. I feel the same way about my Speed Triple. If riding around between 6,000-12,000 feet in altitude didn’t kill so much power, I’d probably be on a Street Triple instead.

I haven’t ridden a street triple yet, but I’ve long feared (hoped?) that it was just like you described. My SV is slowly morphing into a track bike so the temptation is growing stronger lol

Don’t do it, let it live on in your mind as too expensive for a modest improvement over an sv. Riding one will ruin you

I’m gonna be test riding one this week in the hopes of finding a replacement for my ZX-6R... Coincidence? However I’m also looking at the FZ 09 and Z900, haven’t been on either yet and doubt I’d find a dealer willing to let me go for a ride.

I rode the 09, I loved the motor but didn’t like the chassis. The street triple chassis is perfection. Enjoy the ride, it’s the first bike in a while to stir me on an irrational and emotional level (besides the grom)

675, the 765 is too new for me to trust. I usually buy last model years rather than first model years
