Sitting at VW, looking at cars in the showroom. I like some of the wheels, but they have got to be very, very difficult to clean well. What is your favorite wheel that you wouldn’t want to keep clean?

Kinja'd!!!

This is on a Golf Alltrack SEL.

These stupid things:

Kinja'd!!!

They’re painted a gloss black and very easily scratch. Why would they fit wheels with a fragile paint job onto a car that snows brake dust is beyond me.

ETA: Black, not white.

What you cant really see is that there is space behind the spokes that you have to get in and clean. These wheels are a PITA to clean.

The sawblades on my 93 C4 actually weren’t bad to keep clean at all. My fingers fit easily into the opening.

They look like a pain in the ass to me. But you’re the one with the experience.

Try and tell me I’m wrong on the Firebird though :)

I dearly loved the BBS wheels on my E39, but they were a serious pain in the ass to keep clean. I also had similar set of BBS wheels on my MX-6 back in the day, and they were also similarly terrible to keep clean.

I’m guessing you’re not wrong on the Firebird. Then again, I daily drove an MX6 and an E39 with BBS wheels, so the sawblades seemed like nothing compared to keeping those clean.

Anything with track pads. It’s basically pointless to try to clean them because they’ll be coated again after the first braking event anyway.

Alpina Softlines. They don’t *look* complicated, but the amount of spokes makes cleaning them take a lot longer than it should. And there’s 4 of them on a car. Ouch.

I used a wheel cleaner spray and it took about a minute per wheel. Spray on, rub a finger in the holes (with love), and spray off with water. Done! I also just wanted to post pics of the difference wheels can make on the overall look of a car. The difference between Propus vs “uglies” is pretty stark.

My folks had an MGBGT with the wire wheels decades ago - my father still will occasionally complain about having to clean those...

My vote would be BBS, (first gen M5, etc.) Awesome looking, pain is the buttox to clean.
