Kinja'd!!!

This car is delightful as a daily driver. Commuting doesn’t feel like a chore, interior is roomy enough and comfortable for my large self, and an entire full size shopping cart’s worth of groceries fit in the trunk without folding the back seat down. A more thorough post will come along eventually. Opportunities for spirited driving haven’t occurred yet, but I’ve had no problems merging or running at highway speeds.

It also looks pretty good in the sunlight for a 5 year old car.

You might have better luck with your automatic 500 in winter than I had with my manual 500 Sport. The clutch and traction control fought with each other constantly and you can never totally shut the traction control off. I would recommend snow tires, for sure. The standard tires were abysmal unless pavement was totally dry.

It was a fun car on the twisties, though. I took mine up to the mountains all the time.

I’ll definitely be looking into snow tires. I haven’t sold my old beater civic yet, so at least for this first winter I might keep it for when the roads are really bad.

One thing I’ll mention is that I had a weird issue with the sunroof. When it was vented open, sometimes it would refuse to close. It would start to, then pop right back up. I found out that if you hold the button down to close it for what seems like a really long time, it will reset itself and close. The dealer could not figure out why it kept happening even after they cleaned and lubed the track. But the reset trick always worked.

I like fun tossable little cars. They’re my achilles heel. Every once in a while, I think of kicking the Cougar to the curb, but I’ve never built a cruising V8 before, so I need to get that accomplished before I let it go.

But man, 500s, Minis, even the FiST are tempting little cars to me.

See, this is how you make buying decisions. Instead of being lured by marketing pictures of boring crossovers in dirt roads in the middle of nowhere that you will never come across, or 5 seater sedans you’ll be driving alone in 99.9% of the time, or 300 hp+ Grand tourers you will never be able to eke the performance out of in public roads, you went with the fun runabout car that serves your commuting needs. The extra 3 seat and hatch is just fine for the 1% of the time you need them.

Interesting. I’ll make a note of that.

Owning a Miata, I already knew that I liked small cars, but I wanted something with a hard top, an automatic transmission, more cargo room, and good climate control. This Fiat checks all of those boxes, and it doesn’t take itself too seriously. Several people have called my car cute since I bought it, and they’re not wrong.

Yep, I’ve had several small vehicles, too. My first car that I purchased with my own money as a youngster was a ‘85 CRX Si. I’ve gone through several other hatches, an RX8 and a Miata. The FoST was fun, but almost too big. Ha.

Not a huge 500 fan (though the abarth is tempting since it reminded me of the old mk1 gti I had) but they sure have poppin’ paint colors! Love the red.

I didn’t go out of my way to find a red car, but I’m glad that I ended up with one.

I know that a time will come that I regret not having a car big enough for 4 adults, but I’ll get over it.
