PFA. How do you like it? Do you commute with it? Do you lock it up outside at work or something? Curious how practical these are for a ~1mi commute. They’re curious little buggers just with the 50cc watercooled engine, CVT, ECU, electric fuel pump, etc. totally different than the old Rebel I’m used to working on.

A 1 mile commute is comfortable walking distance IMO A bicycle would get you a mile in 5 minutes at a relaxed pace. Even a little 50cc Ruckus would barely get warmed up on such a short trip.

I had rukuses at work for runabouts. Fun little bastards. Slow though

I agree. For one mile, I’d bike or walk.

Unless that Ruckus is free.

35mph feels like hyperspeed when you’re that low, though.

I have disabilities that prevent me from walking much more than a quarter mile in a day. And since I live in the middle of downtown 99% of my driving doesn’t require anything other than 30mph surface streets so a small runabout would be ideal.

Great little bike, meant to just use it as a store runner, but been using it as my main city bike more and more. I usually park on bike racks

I’d go with a grom although im pretty sure you wouldn’t want that I’d you have a pre-existing leg condition

So just, bike chain, lock, and a sturdy object?

Groms are great but they can’t be tagged as a moped in Kansas, so I’d need a full m endorsement and insurance to ride one. Do they not have electric start?

Tbh I’m not sure about newer ones having electric start. For some reason I thought and seemed sure that they didn’t but Google has led me to believe otherwise.

Yep, that’s what I do.

Best thing about the ruckus right now is that all the modders are getting out of them and getting in to groms, good parts are cheap. Just last week I scored two spare motors with full bolt ons for $200 apiece

Late to the party here, but I ride a Ruckus 2.5 miles to work every day. Ive done some modifications to it to get over 45 (intake, exhaust, rejet, etc). But I would reccomend it to anyone.

Funny you just bump this. I just put in that motor tonight, and with a little cvt tuning was able to hit 50+ on a flat. 60 or so at physical rev limit

GY6 motor I assume? With all my bolt-ons and tuning ive done to the GET, I can hit 45 on flats. I impressed myself because im over 250lbs

Nope GET!
Real kicker was the PE20 carb and the CDI. The PE20 gives lots of power above 8500rpm, so I put in 5g sliders to move the shift start point to right around 8300 or so. CVT is active till a little over 9k rpm and then it keeps crawling up to about 10krpm on a flat. According to speed signs in on my tuning roads, this ends up being low 50s (both ways)

On a down hill, letting off at around 10,500rpm I’m deep in the temperature symbol on the speedo.

My next move was to upgrade the carb. Have you done any big bore upgrades?

No, too cost prohibitive. There is no removable jug on the ruckus, so you have to send the whole motor case off to a machine shop. Even then you can’t do much more than 65cc. For the cost and effort involved I’d probably to a 2 stroke zuma swap instead.

That is a good point. Did you swap for MET gears? I’ve heard mixed reviews on whether its worth the $100-$120

Nope, Ruckus Gears, Michelin Bopper Tires (A little taller than stock tires), Polini Variator, Polini Kevlar Belt, Dr. Pulley Sliders
