Plastic ring in a strut mount kit?

I’m in the process of replacing my strut mounts. The Moog kit I got includes a plastic ring, which doesn’t seem to fit anywhere:

The existing struts include a metal and plastic bearing (with grease and ball bearings inside, as I found out by accident), which fits perfectly to the bottom of the strut mount. (The one in the picture is actually upside down - the three bolts should poke up). When I put on the bearing, there’s no place for that plastic ring to fit. It doesn’t seem to fit either into the metal plate on the top of the strut, or into the bearing in any way. Is there something I’m missing? I’m wondering if it’s one of those parts that’s included as part of a one-size-fits-all approach. Either that, or it’s supposed to be at the bottom of the spring, like shown here:

Any guesses?

Does it fit on the top of the spring? Could be a bushing so the spring can rotate as it compresses.

I’ll have to do some more playing around with it. I don’t think it’d fit there, but I’ll take another look when I get home today.
