Anybody got any big plans for the long weekend? My HS freshman son has his first marching band performance tonight and I’m on the pit crew, loading and unloading equipment. Then, I think we’re going to lie low and not drive this weekend since there’s no gas in Austin.

tis the misses 13th anniversary of being declared free from cancer. So we got some friends coming in from out of town, was gonna fire up the smoker but looks like the remains of Mr Harvey will cross my path and I don’t wanna deal with running it in the rain. So we might scale back and just grill some chicken instead. rain doesn’t effect the Weber because it fits under the easy up. we’ll probably round out the day with some shrooms and wine spritzers and I’m thinking fishing will happen Monday.

I got my beer ration taken care of! I went to Costco, where the lines for the pumps are out onto the road but gas is still $2.16.

Going to buy some shirts to replace the ones I’ve lost this year due to attrition and the washing machine being hungry. It’s ridiculous how I’ve lost three due to wear and two more when the machine ripped a sleeve.
Also going to pick up Breath of The Wild using my friend’s Best Buy discount. My Switch has been sitting in its box for like two weeks. Itching to boot that sucker up.

The wife will be watching the Notre Dame game tomorrow. So, my daughter and I will probably do stuff. This is the last weekend for the Mayan exhibit at the Perot Science Museum, and we like to take in the museum and then have diner at the El Fenix across the street. It’s kind of our thing.
We also might visit the zoo before they get rid of the Australian animals. A negotiated planned expansion of I35 is for some reason resulting in them sending their koalas, wallabies, and lorikeets, etc. to new homes. I’ll miss them.
Cars & Coffee is supposed to be tomorrow, but my girl is having a sleep over, and I’m not sure I want to go without her.

We tried to go to the Perot once but it was insanely crowded so we bailed. I think it was on a holiday weekend, though. We definitely want to try again. We’ve been to the Dallas Zoo at least once, but I don’t remember the Aussie animals. That’s a shame, though.

she’s worth celebrating the other 364 days as well, but this day is just a little extra special. she’s in like the less than 1o% of survivors for ocular melanoma. most usually have it come back with in 10 years and she’s still 100% free and clear!

The lorikeets are the best. They give you some nectar (well, sell it to you) to feed them, and they land on your arm or head. Fun photo ops.

I’ve read the whole series at least 10 times, and the Silmarillion twice, plus many of the additional books published by Tolkien’s son Christopher. Yeah, I’m a Tolkien junkie. I like the movies well enough, but I always get frustrated with the changes Jackson and the screenwriters made, and I detest the Hobbit movies.

Yeah, I just don’t feel like having to plan around which stations have gas and having to wait in line. It’s a holiday weekend, I just want to be zero stress. I didn’t need to get up there that badly. They’ll be other nice weekends coming up in the fall.
