12 hour days.

Kinja'd!!!

I earned this. I don’t mind 12 hour plus days when I’m at the track, that’s good, hard, fulfilling work. This was all just paperwork, screens, phone calls, payroll, and bullshit. It’d be nice if everybody would use the damn clock properly so I don’t have to correct everything for two hours to make sure they get paid all their time. I could just say fuck you, these are the hours you clocked, but that’d just make more work for me later with corrections and supplementary checks and be unethical as all hell. Nope, I don’t want it.

I do ten hour days every day between my two jobs and even that wears me out. Twelve hours days would kill me.

12 hour days are nothing for me, after 14-15 hours I start feeling it.

At least it’s consistent. Last week, I ended up doing 60+ hrs because Wednesday was an all nighter that rolled into Thursday.

I used to work “12 hour” days which usually turned into 14-16 hour days 7 days/wk for 120 days straight while psychos lobbed rockets and mortars in my general direction. I don’t miss that.

There are certainly harder and more difficult (not to mention dangerous) jobs, I never forget that. To me, you were doing real work, honorable and important work. Racing work is often 14 hours for days on end, but at the end I feel good about it. Not something I get to do all the time though. This is all meaningless bullshit.

I am fortunate in that regard, that kind of schedule would be hell on my family.

It does start to drag once past half a day.

Nah, you’d just get done what needs doing and enjoy the (beverage of choice) a little more afterwards!

I’m not complaining, really. I got to work with amazing people, support an incredible mission, and see the world. I loved my job. I lived and breathed all of the technical bits of my job and always tried to be the best... But there was a lot that sucked, too. When I told the Mrs. that I wanted to sign up for a third enlistment, she nearly had a breakdown. I knew it was time to hang it up. They were the best, worst years of my life.

I sure do miss these lovely ladies, though.

Dude tell me about it. End of month is a mess sometimes and we get some weird shit from the office ladies upstairs. I can’t imagine having to do all the work of the service writer, office manager, and basically HR. You deserve that beer sir!

Where you are drinking does not look familiar to me... Have you tried the new whiskey bar out your way?
