Kinja'd!!!

Mazda 323 edition

Owners got to send me the title ( I know buying a car without a title in hand is smart.) Good news is; For what I paid, I could probably sell it without paperwork and get my money back if the owner decides to screw me on this.

Kinja'd!!!

With that out of the way, it’s a 1990 1.6FI with a 5 speed. The body’s not too bad and the interior is surprisingly clean for the price. Its got a bunch of new parts and drives smooth.

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

I thought it would handle well considering it weighs nothing but it’s actually not that good. It might be the tires and I’ve only driven it 20 miles so I may change my tune. If i get the title I’ll make another post about it down the line.

I drove a 323 sedan that was awesome on dirt, I would imagine a hatch could only be better, so it may the tires or worn suspension/steering components that are the problem

My dad owned 3 323s before I was born and put nearly a million miles on them combined. He claims he loved them.

I would say give it some good tires, jump up to 14s off a miata or 15s. the factory pizza cutter 13s are awful. Give it some good struts and maybe some lowering springs and you will be fully impressed. If not sell it to me!

I just realized that it’s a manual steering rack so thats probably why I don’t like the handling, I’m just not used to very little response from steering input. On my driveway(1 mile of rough dirt road) it felt like I was destroying the car. I imagine that’s a good sign though because it means the suspensions tight....just not for much longer

I hadn’t considered Miata rims, that’s genius. My first thought was to get some better rims/tires and there’s really no where to go but up.

Miata Daisy wheels are plentiful and look good on 90s mazdas. You can customize how you paint them too. My personal favorite:

manual steering rack should be very crisp and tight. You may have a worn steering component (tie rod end or ball joint, both of which are easy to fix).

What the other guy said, a manual rack should give more feed back not less. Sloth it might be a slower ratio which means more turns lock to lock

Feedbacks being lost in the tires and the initial turn in I’m expecting just isn’t there because it requires tons of input. This may have to do with the fact that I’m used to the Lexus which has a powered rack(but no longer has PS so it’s just a close ratio manual rack)

I’ll start blowing money on it once it’s in my name.

I love these! I’ve always wanted one, I like the older gtx’s obviously but I’ve always preferred the later body style, don’t see many around so I’m jelly. If you ever decide to sell make sure to post it here first!

Skip the daisy’s, look for 7 spokes. Much lighter, made by Enkei, and a bit wider for more tire choices. Generally the same price, probably even easier to find

I can probably count on one hand the number of 323 hatches I’ve seen in person. I didn’t even know they sold the gtx in America.

Only in the older 80's body style, an OPPO had one I think it was MarquetteLa, super badass though I think he got rid of it for a speed6 though.
