Kinja'd!!!

I creeped on this 9000 Aero from the top of a parking garage today. I had a ‘93, so I’m a big 9000 fan...bummer to see it go.

There is nothing wrong with that. Toyota makes the best cars.

How unironic (because it’s not ironic): I gave up on my unreliable Toyota and bought a fancy reliable Toyota.

...

Yeah, that’s the ticket.

My dad went from an XC90 V8 to a Honda Pilot, there’s nothing wrong with buying something reliable. Of course, my dad has the automotive attention span of a fruit fly, and only had the Honda 6 months.

It’s a Saab. If you want to improve reliability, Couldn’t you buy literally any other car?

It does... For four people with no knees and no possessions.

Exactly! It has space for 4 people - I didn’t say 4 WHOLE people, and it easily has space for the luggage of 4 people if their luggage is one toothbrush.

Heads up - I owned a second generation RAV4 until 2008 and it was a total reliability headache. We ended up getting rid of it at 75k at after two transmission replacements. It also had all sorts of head issues (VVT-i, cams, etc.) just before warranty was up at like 59k. Lots of other little things broke/stopped working/worked when they felt like it/etc. On top of that, it was rare to ever top 20 MPG, which isn’t a reliability issue just annoying for something so small. Since I don’t own it anymore, I forget what the weak points are, but I’d recommend joining an owner’s group/forum and getting up to speed. My experience doesn’t mean that yours will be a nightmare or anything, but compared to other Toyota’s of the era, these aren’t necessarily the most reliable things, so its good to know what the trouble spots are so that you aren’t surprise if/when things come up.

Hmm, actually the first time I’ve ever heard of someone having major issues with a rav4. Thanks for the heads up. Has to be said though, I’m getting a two year used car warranty with it, and I’m not planing on owning it for more than two years tops.

suuure :P But at least I can get parts for a toyota, the saab needs a few new bits and bobs that aren’t made anymore.. sooo.

Ahh - well you should be fine with the warranty then! We had the first year of the 2nd-gen (2000 I think) so that could be part of it. Also possible that most of the problem areas have been patched up by this point as well - and maybe you even have a totally different motor/trans in it than what we got in the USA. Anyway, good luck with the rest of the purchase process!

Opel? No thanks.. Boring cars with shit quality in the price range I can afford. Opel had awesome cars up until 198oish, then just shit up until 2012ish.

How good are used car warranties in Norway? In Germany, they only pay for a percentage of the repair costs depending on mileage. And they only pay for non-wear items (no brakes, batteries, wipers, clutches, shocks, exhausts.... you name it) So for a car that’s over 100k kms, they are pretty much worthless unless you need a need head or short block or a new gearbox. And even then they will pay only a percentage of that.

Pretty much the same here, but the one I’m getting is a tad better, it’s an engine and trans warranty valid for two years or 20k kilometers.
