Kinja'd!!!

Just gonna feel bad for a few hour, or really anytime I remember it.

Went into the gas station and was backing into a space, the black Audi behind me started pulling out as I was backing in. I was paying too much attention on getting the righthand side of my car near the pump. I didnt notice the Audi right behind until he honked his horn and I was like a foot or two away. Naturally he shook his head in disgust as I pulled forward and he passed.

I could blame the old tint on the rear window that made the black Audi blend into the shade of the structure. But if I was paying better attention to the car behind me this wouldn’t have happened. It didn’t even occur to me that he would pull forward(massive oversite). Maybe I shouldn’t have even been backing into the space? I don’t really know since I’ve seen it done alot and this station has an entrance on both sides

Kinja'd!!!

Either way I need to do better.

Any incident that doesn’t involve a morgue, hospital, or body shop is a good one. Shake it off and keep an eye out next time.

These are good self-check moments. Feeling bad is normal, but also feel good that you dodged a bullet.

Given that it was an Audi, it wouldn’t surprise me if the Audi guy was at fault. He probably just kept pulling forward and was pissed that he couldn’t easily leave the pump.

I have a tendency to dwell on driving mistakes, I should be happy that nothing bad happened. But I can’t shake the feeling that I should’ve never put myself in that position

I just wish he wasn’t as angry.

I know that feel... People piss me off relatively easily (glare passively and make noises to myself pissed, not aggressive pissed—the vast majority of the time anyway) and I expect myself not to do the same thing. But shit happens. It’s kind of like being on a high-dive board. It’s all easy until you’re next in line.

What gets me most though is accidental honks. When I wreaked my shoulder a bit ago I had to use one hand for everything. Doesn’t seem like a big deal, I drive one handed lots! ...no. That other hand is normally there whenever you need it. Trying to use one hand for EVERYTHING meant I nailed the horn button while turning quite a few times. The feeling like you were being a dick to totally innocent people sucks.

I think cars need a second horn, one that says “SORRY SORRY I DIDN’T MEAN THAT”

When I was ~21, I was driving a bare-framed GMC 7000 chassis (air brakes, diesel, 6x2 trans) in SW Chicago (McKinley Park) and had no effing clue what I was doing. I had to cross Western Boulevard to get to Western Avenue (really - the layout is kinda dumb), and made the mistake of thinking the Boulevard was 1 way - and started to pull in front of a damned school bus full of kids, then panicked and stalled it. The bus slammed on the brakes and went around me - no contact, thank God. I was shaking for about 10 minutes after that. That was nearly 30 years ago, and it’s still a vivid memory.

But the bottom line is that you can learn from it, with no harm, so it’s a good thing - as long as you think through what you did, what you can learn, and take something away from it.

That sounds terrifying. I’m definitely gonna look at parking a little differently from what happened today(even if it sounds very minor)

It was terrifying, believe me. Compounded (and partly cause TBH) by the fact that I was driving a brand new vehicle that I had no business driving - it took me about 5 minutes to figure out how to just release the parking brake. And it was destined for a dump body - - so it had air brakes that were virtually useless with no weight on the rear axles.

But we’re all human - so we all make mistakes. That also means we’re capable of learning from those mistakes if we choose. You’re doing that right now - not everyone does, frankly.

That’ll make you less likely to be in that position in the future.

Being hated on by an Audifahrer with tinted windows probably means you actually weren’t at fault.

Accidentally hit horn. Immediately look around as if you have no idea who’s honking.

I’m familiar with the accidental honk

Once upon a time there was a 21 year old jackass named Macanamera that had a brand new GT-R. He was pumping gas at a gas station and went inside to buy a can of Copenhagen. He met two attractive girls inside, and decided to puff up his feathers and try to look cool.

He walked (strutted) back to his gleaming, bright red GT-R, got in, started that bad bitch up, turned off TCS, and tried to do a little four wheel chirp out of the station.

What Mac had unfortunately forgotten was that he hadn’t removed the gas pump from the car.

The end.

A week ago I missed a 1st to 2nd shift, and I was at 7000rpm. The grinding.... Oh god I can still hear it...
