Need for a 60's or 70's Mercedes SL has reached dangerous proportions.

Sadly the kind of peaple who have battered sl’s are not the kind of peaple who want to trade for a beat up sc.

Many 107s are cheap as chips and will remain so for the foreseeable future.

The 113 boat set sail several years ago, it aint coming back.

I have this perverse desire to put one on bags and have a really low, awesome cruiser car.

Came to post the same thing. Love the Pagoda, but prices are out of this world and rising. Not a big R107 fan, apparently no one else is, either.

If you like the R107, buy one now. They can’t get much cheaper.

Also I am not a fan of the wheel and tire combo on the red Pagoda at the top. I like the factory color coded covers best

Saw a really nice one in Fairbanks earlier this week. So clean.

If I thought my SC would sell for enough to buy 450sl it would be for sale tomorrow

I’m the opposite about the rims

Personally I think you can put those rims on a Pagoda, OR whitewalls— but not both.

I don’t think the rims go with whitewalls — took me a few minutes to figure out what it was that I didn’t like.

I don’t think whitewall is ever an option

I remember when a decent driver 230SL was under 15K, and 280SLs weren’t double that. This was less than 20 years ago.

Some 107s are nice, but it takes the right car.

A not perfect 450SL should be under 10K, maybe quite a bit less depending on year. But they can cost huge sums to get right if neglected or abused, so being cheap is seldom a good option. Budget 10-15K for a decent car and be happier.

The SC will be easier to live with, I suspect. Maybe just save up, I don’t predict significant price gains for average cars.

Heck, a 300SL was probably $50k back then- now those are truly insane.

Agree on the R107 - nice car, just not one on my bucket list. The right car would be a nice car though

20 years ago, you could still get a roadster for 250K or so, I think, but gullwings were already twice that or more. For cheap cheap gullwings, I think one needs to go back 35+ years . 40-45 years ago, they could easily be had for well under 10K all day long.

For a 107, I would pick a very early (small bumper) car, a mint 560SL, or the right Euro model. 25K should buy a nice example of the latter two, 15K for the first.

Makes sense on the R107.

Last year, I saw a 300sl roadster on the road near me, and we eventually figured out that the owner bought it in the early 70s I think- somewhere in that 10k range, as I recall.
